Are you looking for ways to make money on the side with your skill set? These in-demand skills can help you make some extra cash and boost your career.

Are you looking for ways to make money on the side with your skill set? These in-demand skills can help you make some extra cash and boost your career.

In today’s world, money seems to be a constant issue. It’s getting harder and harder to find suitable, well-paying jobs, save enough money, let alone trying to effectively plan overseas pensions and/or retirement.

With the rising cost of living, the workplace has completely changed character. Now, more than ever it is integral to have the right skills to suit jobs that are out there and available. Acquiring these skills may help you make that much needed extra cash, and ultimately, secure yourself a better future. Here’s a list of 5 skills that will help you make and save some money:

Digital Marketing

With all the advances of technology, a large part of businesses are now “online”. For this reason, the digital marketing industry is booming like never before. Businesses are transferring their advertising and marketing budgets to the web, making SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Content Marketing and Social Media Marketing a top priority. You can also check SEO tips at Scott Keever Fort Lauderale SEO.

Thus, there is a rising need for people who understand the online marketing landscape to aid their digital campaigns. Learning about at least one these areas within digital marketing is a valuable skill, and will make you an asset in terms of advancing your career.

Furthermore, freelancing your skills will enable you to take on many side projects that will allow you to make some extra money. This is a great list of ways you could be Making Money From Home.

Medical Assisting

The Bureau of Labor & Statistics (BLS) forecasts that growth in the medical assistance field is much higher than average as compared to all other occupations. This should come as no surprise, considering the general population growth and the rise in healthcare issues all around the world.

A medical assistant provides physical and administrative support to doctor and nurses. The outpatient sector is greatly expanding, and so medical assistants are in demand. One of the perks of this skill is that it can be learned online, and unlike becoming a doctor, doesn’t need a higher education degree.

The average starting pay for medical assistants was around $35,000 a year in 2013, and it can only go up from there.

Cost Estimating

Cost estimating is not only a skill which is in great demand, but will also help you learn to manage your personal finances. Cost estimators are those who estimate the time, money, materials, and labor required to manufacture a product, construct a building, or provide a service.

While a Bachelor’s degree in a financial related field such as business, or accounting may help, it is definitely not a requirement. Cost estimators earn an average of $58,860 with potential for higher earnings depending on qualifications. The job outlook for this field is high, making cost estimating a good skill to acquire.

Finally, learning how to estimate costs will help you in your individual budgeting and spending habits, and can thus be a wonderful tool to help you save money in your personal life as well. In this regard, cost estimating is a skill that has utility in both personal and professional areas!

Mechanics (and other Repair Work)

Considering we are living in an exceedingly car-driven society, it is no wonder that auto mechanics are in high demand. Did you know that the average American spends around $9,150 on car-related costs? Now, I’m not suggesting that you drop everything and rush into becoming a mechanic (though if you are intrigued, mechanics make a starting salary of $37,000 a year).

However, it may be worthwhile to learn some car hacks, such as how to maximize fuel efficiency, how to save money on gas, or how to fix a leak.  Learning these skills will reduce your trips to the mechanics, thus saving you a sufficient amount of money.

Similarly, learning how to repair household items, fix plumbing or have a basic electrical knowledge would be very useful skills to have.  All these are not only in-demand skills today; they are also life skills, and ones that will keep giving.

Event Planning

If you have a passion for throwing creative parties or organizing fun events, then event planning may be a path for you to explore. Event planners are high in-demand and get paid a substantial amount.

Event planners choose meeting locations, arrange transportation, consider the lodging and services that the facility can provide, how easy it will be for people to get there, and the attractions that the surrounding area has to offer. As you can see, event planning involves lots organization and communication, so if you have these skills, this could be a good avenue within which to leverage them.

With today’s changing work atmosphere and the influx of new ideas entering the workforce, companies are creating unique cultures to retain top talent. Throwing “after-work parties” and having frequent social gatherings is slowly becoming the norm. With the emphasis on benefits and perks in today’s workplace, as well as the importance placed on “company culture”, event planning is a great skill to possess.
