10+ Ways to Take Your Outfit from Day to Night

Day-to-night Wear: From Working to Working It

Whether you're having date night, a social gathering, or attending a work event, you need any way to transition your outfit from day to night. | OutsideTheBoxMom.com

We all know the struggle: the workday ends and we want to head out for the evening, but we don’t have time to stop at home to change. That, or our clothing budget can’t stretch in more than one direction, and work takes the front seat. There are some simple ways you can spice up your office attire to make it nightlife appropriate. Follow these suggestions to make your day-to-night game strong.

1. Eyeglasses

A key item you can change are your eyeglasses. Whether you wear prescription lenses or not, adding some fashionable frames post-work immediately shift your entire look. They’re a simple accessory to keep on hand, and they’ll make you feel a bit like Clark Kent. If you wear contacts during the day, reaching for your frames will also be a favor for your eyes while sprucing up your outfit.

2. Jacket

Layering clothes makes a dramatic dent in your work-to-play transformations. Keeping a different jacket in your car or work cubby is a simple, quick change you can make to your outfit. It’s the biggest piece of clothing you can swap out without having to step aside into a bathroom stall.

3. Vest

As the jacket’s close cousin vests would be an ideal fit  if a jacket is too warm for your outfit. Vests turn a work blouse or button-up into its best version of itself. With the addition of a vest, you could be ready for any possible evening activity.

4. Hat

The hat is an accessory that is slow but surely making its way back into the mainstream. What’s better than an outfit amender that you just pop on your head and you’re good to go? A nice hat makes a statement no matter the venue.

5. Scarf

Scarves are the necklaces of clothing. They layer like jackets while playing more of an accessory role. Scarves slay at changing an outfit from day to night, and they keep you warm to boot. They also come in a variety of styles, colors, and fabrics, so you’ll be able to find a scarf that pairs with any work outfit you happen to have.

6. Belt

A flashy belt can transform any pair of boring work pants into evening attire. Tuck in your shirt and play up your belt as a statement piece. If you have a surplus of scarves, you could even wear a scarf as a belt to really make the transformation dramatic. You can dress up ordinary dresses to make them look like evening dresses.

7. Rings

They’re small and might get overlooked, but rings are a nice way to remind yourself that you’re off the clock, and they might catch a keen onlooker’s attention. They also bring out larger outfit alterations, such as necklaces and earrings.

8. Necklaces

Necklaces are the statement pieces of evening wear. Simple work suit becomes drop-dead gorgeous evening outfit when paired with a dramatic necklace. They can sleep at the bottom of your purse while you’re at the office and then dazzle the instant you leave work.

9. Earrings

Earrings are the less-bold cousin to necklaces in terms of turn a work outfit into an evening outfit. Large, dramatic earrings take the focus off your outfit and bring attention to your face. Seeing as large earrings are rarely worn in a professional setting, they’ll also remind you that it’s time to let loose.

10. Shoes

Footwear is a little more cumbersome to change out – chances are you’ll need to sit down for this one – but swapping work shoes for sandals, high heels, or boots can take an outfit from zero to fab in a heartbeat. It also gives your feet a metaphorical cup of coffee so they’re refreshed and ready for the dance floor or wherever else you’re headed.

11. Ties

Male or female, ties can be added or subtracted from a work outfit to make it evening-ready. A loose tie look pairs well with less formal evening activities, while a snug and smooth tie prepares you for fancy dinner outings and such.

12. Bags

Bags and purses are the most functional accessory you can use to alter your outfit. A killer purse can distract from any outfit, and if you did take time to swap out some smaller accessories, a well-coordinated purse can make them pop.

13. Make-Up

Make-up is a little more of a commitment for changing up a work outfit for the evening, but going from a plain face to even just a touch of mascara and lipstick and alter a look dramatically.

14. Hair

Hair fits into the same category as make-up, but changing your hair might be as simple as taking out a bun or running some gel through your locks. Don’t underestimate the power of a quick hair change to affect your outfit.

When it comes to preparing yourself for an evening out, take the easy route and let your work outfit do double duty. Don’t waste time on changing; just toss in an accessory here, some glasses there, and go reward yourself with some fun!

    Hi Raki,

Thanks for sharing such a good article.

That is the main problem of today’s generation, we won’t have time. In evening we really won’t have time to stop at home, time comes that we don’t have time also to prepare for some special get-together.

The tips you have described are quite helpful for those like us. We can dress-up in the morning only for the duo- office and evening outings with some little accessories we can change our-self from formal to casual.

It is really helping article for all of us. I’ll share it to the one who needs it. Continue writing and sharing this type of posts.

    Have a nice week ahead.
