5 Cheap Summer Activities for Kids

Summer activities for kids can include most any activity inexpensively, if you are flexible on the when and the where.

Last summer, I did a series on Fun Things to Do in the Summer. This post shares some of my favorites and gives you some ideas for things to do with your kids this summer.

1. Make A Routine

The first thing to do is to make a routine. Do you feel like the kids watch TV or play Xbox all day? Is you preschooler constantly being needy? Our summers run a lot smoother when we have a routine. It means that I only have to plan once and the kids know what to expect.

2. Save Money at the Skating Rink

When I was a kid, I went to summer camp at the skating rink. I enjoyed seeing old friends, making new friends, skating, and watching movies on the big screen. We took field trips to the pool, played arcade-style video games, and go to ride the big school bus to many fun events off-site. So, of course, I enjoy taking my kids to the skating rink as well. I have five great tips for you to save money at the skating rink, too.

3. How to Save Money at Indoor Play Centers

Do you have an indoor play center like Pump it Up in your area? Indoor play centers are a great way to have some fun things to do in the summer and stay cool. Indoor play centers often feature inflatables, play areas, play zones, go karts, laser tag in a completed family entertainment center. You are not going to want to miss five ways to enjoy indoor fun.

4. Reading On the Cheap

We all tell our kids to read, especially in the summer. Now that school is out and the summer is upon us, I want to ensure my son doesn’t just veg on the couch playing video games all summer long. It’s important to keep reading and learning throughout the summer so you don’t lose those skills that you worked on during the school year. I share eight free ways your kids can enjoy reading this summer.

5. Movies on the Cheap

What better way to get out of the house, sit in comfy reclining chairs, see books we’ve read come to life, and have a big screen with surround sound experience? The movie theater! I share five ways your kids can enjoy movies this summer on the cheap…plus some free ones.

6. How to Save Money at the County Fair

State fairs are full of food, fun, and entertainment. I love them. You get outside, get some exercise, see some familiar faces (from last year), and get an amusement park experience in your own backyard. You don’t want to miss these six ways to save money at the county fair.
