County Fairs and State Fairs are definitely on my list of  fun things for summer. I share four inexpensive ways your kids can enjoy the fair.

Yay!  We’re going to the fair today!  I find that you can do most any activity inexpensively if you are flexible on the day and/or time that you go.  State fairs are full of food, fun, and entertainment.  I love them.  You get outside, get some exercise, see some familiar faces (from last year), and get an amusement park experience in your own backyard.

Six Ways to Save Money at the County Fair

Fair, Summer 2012

1. Buy A Wristband or Family Fun Pack

Unlimited rides for a certain price.

Creates a time budget (usually good during certain hours).

Some packages include multiple unlimited ride tickets and a certain amount in food vendor credit.

2. Take Advantage of Free Gate Admission

If you are fortunate enough that your fair offers free gate admission, you can still have access to the food vendors, animal exhibits, musical concerts, and other forms of entertainment for free.

3. Check The Fair’s Website

You will find out the schedule, attractions, opening and closing dates, and special offer days & details.

4. Be Selective About Purchases

Eat dinner beforehand. Then, pick your favorites.  Mine are funnel cake and candy apples.  I have a budget of $10 to get my food and that’s it.  You may allow the kids to each pick one treat.  Bring drinks such as frozen 1/2 frozen bottles of water or juice with you.

5. Look for Coupons

Often newspapers, local businesses, and other organizations will offer coupons and discounted rates.  It may be as simple as donating a canned good, dressing in a certain way, or attending on a particular day or during particular hours.

6. Purchase Advance Tickets

Local businesses and the hosting site may begin selling tickets before the fair opens.  Buy early to take advantage of special rates.

Great tips on saving at the fair! These would certainly apply anywhere, and I will be putting them into practice when the fair comes to my town. Thanks for sharing at the #HomeMattersParty – we’re looking forward to what you have to share next week. 🙂
