Depending on the layout of your home and the position of the sun each day, you may have that one problem window in your house that lets in way too much sunlight. While the warm sun is a welcoming comfort on those cold winter days, sometimes a super sunny window may make things uncomfortable. That one room could feel extra warm, no matter what time of year, making your HVAC system work a little harder. Instead, try these solutions for an extremely sunny spot in your space.

Place Plants

First, think about ways you can take advantage of the extra sun and maybe use it for another purpose. A bright, sunny spot in your home may be the perfect spot for your indoor plants that need lots of light. Create a wall of cute house plants and watch them thrive and grow in the sunlight.

Use Window Film

If the sun is getting unbearable, window film is an easy and inexpensive solution to control the heat and glare each day. Window film is a thin material that you can apply to windows to lessen the brightness and intensity from the sun. It can be used with other window designs, such as curtains and drapes. You can purchase a sheet of window film and opt to install it yourself with a few simple tools and a few minutes of time.

Cover With Custom Shades

You can also purchase a set of custom shades made from a heavier material to keep the sun from heating up your room too much. Choose a fabric that has some sort of light filtering properties or a shade design that offers blackout features to keep your room much cooler. If you work with a reputable window design company like Next Day Blinds company to find the right style and fabric for your room.

Try Heavy Drapes

For something a little different to keep the sun out, heavy drapes may also work for your room’s look and layout. Fabric drapes may help control the temperature in your room and give it a more upscale look. Heavy drapes work best with larger windows, like a pair of sliding glass or French doors, or windows that go from the ceiling to the floor.

Install Window Blinds

Blinds for your sunny window are also a great solution to get control over the amount of light you let into your room each day. Look through the different window blinds styles from a company like Next Day Blinds to get an idea of what would look best in your space. You can also opt for window blinds that go between the panes of your windows to get even more protection from the sun.

Get Shutters

Some homeowners use shutters to help control the sunlight in their brightest rooms. Plantation shutters are a great way to give your room some sophistication while also keeping the heat and glare out of your living spaces. For extreme heat situations, outdoor shutters can be used to give you some relief from a large window or sliding glass door.

Get an Outdoor Awning

Another outdoor solution to try is an awning. An outdoor awning can be placed against the window to keep the direct sunlight from heating up the room too much. Awnings can also help reduce your need for air conditioning and help with your energy bill. If you want a little more customization, consider going with a retractable awning to give you options to leave the awning up or down depending on the weather.

The brightest, sunniest spots in your home don’t have to be miserably hot anymore if you are strategic with your window design. Check out these options to control the light and heat and make things more comfortable.
