Would you rather do speed cleaning on a Friday night than go out?  Me, too.  I would rather have all day Saturday and Sunday open!

Would you rather do speed cleaning on a Friday night than go out?  Me, too.  I would rather have all day Saturday and Sunday open!|Outsidetheboxmom.com
Often, the weekend is catch up time for homework, cooking, and cleaning.  I’ve experimented with several different cleaning schedules.  I quickly grew tired of the clean-a-thon all day on Saturday.

In recent weeks, I have tried to do some cleaning on Friday nights so that we can start the weekend with a clean house.

My goal is to hit the main areas of the house, so there is little to nothing that needs to be done on Saturday or Sunday.

The first thing I do is find a good internet radio station to listen to that I can turn up loud and sing (I love listening to this ultimate cleaning playlist!).  Then, I hit the Friday Fast 5 for an hour.

  1. Tidy Up – Take 5-15 minutes to put away items that are out of place.  The kids take everything to the room it belongs in. {10 minutes}
  2. Kitchen Quick Clean – Wash any dishes (using a dish sponge with handle), wipe counters, put away unnecessary items.  {10 minutes}
  3. Vacuum – My 10-year old is responsible for the vacuuming in our house. {15 minutes}
  4. Sweep & Mop Floors – I love the Swiffer sweeper, wet jet, and 360 dusters.  Spend less time cleaning by using time-saving cleaning products like Swiffer sweeper, Swiffer mop, microfiber cloths, or Swiffer duster.  {15 minutes}
  5. Clean the Bathroom: tub, toilet, sink  (Toilet tablets, Swiffer sweeper, wet jet, Clorox wipes for the sink and toilet surfaces.  Comet or toilet cleaner in the toilet.).  I talked about air fresheners that last 30 days and the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner in my 6 Things You Should Automate to Free Up Your Time post. {10 minutes}

One of my favorite magazines, Real Simple, shares great tips like How to Speed Clean Your Kitchen and How to Speed Clean Your Bath.  MoneySavingMom even has a  Whip Your House Into Shape in 2 Hours checklist, if you need more guidance.

    Love this, Raki! My mom used to have a quick Friday cleaning routine that looked a lot like this one. She made sure our house was ready for the weekend.
