Are you looking for ways to easily save money on fashionable clothes? I’ve got five easy tips to help you stretch your clothing budget.
Keeping up with changing fashion trends is one of the most difficult aspects of maintaining a responsible budget.
You can stay in the know by following blogs like Ten/10 Apparel which features the best items in polo t-shirts, undershirts for men, curved hem t-shirts, and more.
Whether you go for a steam punk flair or something a little more subtle, prices can become really high, really fast in the fashion world.
Luckily there are ways to save money and put it toward more long-term activities while still being able to shop and expand your wardrobe. Not every method will appeal to every buyer, but here are some logical ways to save.
Buy From Others
For accessories and other gently-used items, buying directly from other consumers can lead to finding a great deal on popular trends. Many other shoppers feel the need to update their clothing and accessories to incorporate new styles.
Others simply lose the desire for their items, and some people need to earn money in times of emergency. Getting a hold of these fellow consumers at the right time can provide fashionable gear much cheaper than buying off shelves and racks.
Clean Out Your Closet
You can also take the opportunity to do your own cleaning by finding old treasures in the back of the closet and using them again. Old trends often come back into style such as bright colors, aviator sunglasses and the ever-changing skinny or wide-legged pant, so you can make your own retro pieces trendy again.
You can even use old clothing to blend with newer styles without having to spend more on each finished look. Using retro styles helps to make expressive fashion statements, save money on new clothing and prevent purchased items from going to waste.
Sell your old clothes to a reseller like Plato’s closet and use that money to buy new threads essentially for free.
Shop eBay
Many buyers use eBay as a method of purchasing clothing and accessories. Some clothing items can be purchased directly from manufacturers for a fraction of the price, and they even offer the latest styles.
There are also special stores from big retail names to give consumers more avenues through which to purchase their products. Those with more picky tastes can find relief in the wide selection of items from high-end designer brands as well.
The appeal of finding affordable fashion on eBay is enhanced as many sellers offer items with free shipping to provide an even better deal.
Go Thrifting
Some people think of thrift stores as the place for cheap or garish hand-me-downs, but they’ve actually become a great place to keep up with new looks. Shoppers can often find pieces that help make up their outfits without having to spend more money on new items.
The clothing found in the stores is still in good condition, and it can only be put for sale that way. In some cases, there are even new and unused items for purchase. The clothes found in thrift stores are usually simple but still useful, and they come in handy when needing to replenish a work or business wardrobe.
Another big win you can find in thrift stores is name-brand accessories. Clothing can get worn out or stained but accessories like sunglasses, jewelry and earrings do not wear-down in the same way. I have found big brands like Ray Ban sunglasses that usually cost $300+ brand new, for $20 bucks in mint condition at a thrift shop.
Frequent Trendy, Budget-Friendly Retailers
There are many fashion chains known for offering inexpensive clothing. These companies appeal to those keeping up with new trends and also those on smaller budgets. The clothing is still trendy despite its lower cost, but the consumer gets away with spending much less money compared to other clothing retailers. When affordable fashion stores offer clothing on sale, buyers get to save even more. Sales and promotions offer chances to find new clothing at some of the lowest prices possible.

Anyone can stay within their personal budget and still feel confident with the clothes they wear. There are lots of ways to save money while still keeping up with the newest trends in fashion. Whether you buy second-hand from others or a thrift store, clean out your closet to create some extra cash, or shop for trendy, yet affordable clothing online, everyone can find a way to save money on fashionable clothes.

Hi Lorraine!
Here’s what I am doing for my growing tween:
1. For now, start at thrift stores. My local Goodwill sells shorts for $3 and pants for $4. I’m using that to stretch my summer clothing budget. I can get shirts for $3-4 there or graphic tees at Walmart starting at $5-6.
2. I also shop at consignment stores like Plato’s Closet and a local one in my city.
3. This month, you should be able to find late Winter/Spring markdowns. Then, in August, buy larger sizes for next Summer. In November, buy larger sizes for next Fall. In February, buy larger sizes for next Winter. Next May, buy larger sizes for Spring.
4. If he’s interested, let him help you shop. Give him a budget and see what he would do with it.
Does that help? Let me know if you need more suggestions!
Best,
Raki

I had a bad thrifting experience. Not anything to grand, just walked into a thrift store that was suggested by a friend and it was overwhelming cluttered, clothes in horrible condition, etc etc. I need to maybe try some better options, but that craziness sticks in my head. I’m not much of a shopper anyway, but I should give it another try. LOL!

I have a friend who looks like she stepped right out of a fashion magazine every time I see her and she buys 90% of her clothes at thrift shops and good will…no joke! Highly accessorized … she looks like a million!

I love getting a good deal on clothes. Having 4 kids, I do not like paying full retail price on anything that they will grow out of within a couple of weeks. I have found a few places in my area that are organized well and don’t overwhelm me when I walk in. Like, Toni, I’m not much of a shopper so walking into a place that is organized well, keeps me there and going back because they make it easy instead of more work.
