Do you want to be one of those women who is a design trendsetter with a unique style, instead of being a fashionable follower? Here are 8 quick and easy ways to dress with unique clothing and show off your quirky style.

When you show up wearing the same outfit as someone else, it can be hard to feel like your look is truly unique. While it does take a little effort to bypass the “new” display rack in your favorite store, try these tips to make yourself a trendsetter instead of a fashionable follower. Here are 8 quick and easy ways to dress more uniquely (with affiliate links to a few suggested resources for your fashion journey):

Check out charity shops

Everyone shops at the mall department stores and discount retail chains. If you are ever wanting to find some clothing items that are cheap and unique, a charity shop would be an excellent place to look. Not only will the selection be extensive at a charity store, you won’t have to break your wallet to look more unique. Simply find some clothing items that set you apart and you are ready to go!

Accessorize

Accessorizing is a really easy way to set yourself apart from other people. A simple scarf can add color to your outfit, a hat can cover up a bad hair day, a pair of sunglasses can hide bags under your eyes, etc. Finding cheap sunglasses online is a good place to start. The point is that any accessory from a leather hand bag to a pair of new shades can spice up your outfit and make you a little more unique and fashionable too!

Wear new and eccentric make-up

New and different make-up choices will prevent you from blending into a crowd. Try ordering an “essentials kit” from any name brand make-up company and see what kind of results you get. For the most unique looks, go online and check out some videos (i.e. YouTube). Without spending too much time or money you can give your face a unique look that will set you apart.

Buy some clothes from thrift stores

Thrift stores are excellent places to find a variety and large quantity of unique and eccentric clothing. The best thing to do in thrift stores is to set an amount you want to spend per item and then buy everything that fits. Your wardrobe will fill up with cool and wacky clothing items really quickly. And not to mention, you won’t have to worry about looking unique with a whole closet of thrift shop clothes!

Try a unique hairstyle

Try going to a new hairdresser and getting a new ‘do. You would be surprised how much changing your hairstyle can change your overall look. One slight change in your hair could make you much more unique. Who knows, maybe you might find a hairstyle that you like even better than your current one. Don’t be afraid of change. It is pretty likely that you will have to change more than one thing to increase your uniqueness.

Layer funky colored shirts

Layering shirts on top of each other is a great way to build a unique outfit. A long sleeve shirt of one color underneath a short sleeve short of another color makes a really hip and unique look, for example. Layering any clothing items is very stylish and unique. Think shirts, bracelets, scarves, belts, etc.

Try dressing more like your favorite time in history

Our grandparents were part of a different generation – maybe the 30s, 40s, or 50s. Their generation had a completely different style than ours. If you try and mimic their style, you can be sure that you will find yourself dressing more uniquely than the people of today! The 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s are pretty stylish, too. Vintage is in! Check out how fashion changed through the ages on Threadcurve.com.

Mix and match outfits

It might be difficult to do, but sometimes you should break up your favorite outfits. Everyone has those outfits that will forever be paired up. You can’t bear to wear those grey slacks unless you are wearing the blue button-up. Sometimes though, the best thing is to let go of those groupings and mix and match your outfits. This will lead to fun and wild combinations that will help make your wardrobe as stylish and unique as ever!

Yay for funky clothes! I didn’t have much money growing up so I used to love to get $10.00 and go to the thrift store. I still have some amazing dresses that I bought in high school for $8.00. Now, I’m a big fan of keeping my wardrobe small and seeing how many new outfits I can make with what I have. Love this post!

Yeah, sounds good. Thanks for sharing such an informative article. It can give the knowledge of fashion and clothing style, especially for those people who don’t have any knowledge of dressing sense, but though they have good outfits without any matching.

I’ve learned that like everybody else, my personal style evolves overtime. I work in the fashion industry, so I’m lucky enough to be inspired by what my coworkers, and friends, put together everyday. I’m big on having a few key pieces that I can wear with a variety of things in my closet, ideally for more than just one season. Then I have fun pieces; and a mountain of scarves, new and vintage, to accessorize with! I definitely agree with thrifting and going to charity stores, you never know what you’ll discover there, you’ll be saving so much, and hopefully find something that tells a story! Thanks so much for sharing this post! 🙂
