The level of preparedness you have when you go on a weekend camping trip can make or break the trip.
Camping is one of those activities that can be extremely fun or not. Going into the wild isn’t something you want to do without packing. What you take along with you during a weekend camping trip is highly essential, especially if you want to experience nature fully.
A lot of people would instead pack things that aren’t necessary, and this leads to a bad camping experience. If you don’t know how to pack for your weekend camping trip and you want to know how: continue reading.
Pack the necessities
There are three essential things you need to take along when going on any camping trip; Shelter, clothing, and food. When you go camping, you need to pack the large dome camping tents as they have a decent amount of space, are more breathable, and easy to pitch.
Watch tutorial videos on how to set up a tent because it is crucial. Setting up your tent well will protect you from the harsh side of nature. Sleeping out in the open could leave you vulnerable to all sorts of things.
Packing the right clothing is also essential. Don’t pack clothes that will leave your body open; there are many insects, and you could get bitten.
And finally, you’ll need to bring water, a stove, a flask, etc. along. It would be best if you used a comfortable-to-carry bag, such as a duffel bag, and packed consumables and things you can use to cook. It can get very hot, and you don’t want to get dehydrated.
Pack gear to hunt, fish, and for safety
One very important thing is your safety. Going camping without safety gear can be dangerous.
A gun would be more than adequate, but if you can’t get one, you can get a neck or pocket knife or pepper spray to protect yourself. Consider bringing a head lamps, too. If you’ve got children with you, they’ll need their own kids’ headlamps too.
Weekend camping trips are usually the perfect length of camping as you get to have fun, without going too long. You can do all the outdoorsy activities, but still know you will be home in a couple of days.
Some people love to hunt on weekend camping trips. If this is you, pack all the necessary gear for this from your rifles to your predator hunting lights. You will also need to bring a fishing rod along if you plan to fish. If you plan to fish, you will need bait.
If you don’t plan to search for bait in the camping ground, you can bring it along. You can even bring your favorite spices to cook your catch of the day. When camping preparations goes well, you won’t even miss home.
Also, always carry around a two-way radio like a handheld CB radio (or citizens band radio) to be safe. This way, you have the means to call for help in case you get lost in an area with no mobile reception. Having a satellite navigation device will also help in such situations.
Bring supplies for other fun activities
There’s nothing that says you can’t have the time of your life while camping. You can take board games that you can play with your companions along.
If you are alone, you can take some books along to keep you company. If you can, try to reduce communication with technology. The point of a camping trip is to experience nature, and too much contact with technology will take away from that.
Camping is something that everyone should experience once in their life. Nature is beautiful, and we all need to experience her in her full glory.
Packing the right things not only keeps you safe but also makes the camping worthwhile. Packing the wrong things when going camping is like running out of what you need at home; it’s horrible. So pack the things you need and go exploring!
