Your wedding day is when you made a lifetime commitment to your beloved. For many people, this was a public announcement in front of family and friends that you will stand with your partner through tough times as well as fun times. This special day deserves to be celebrated on every anniversary because it is a chance to share your love, strength and positivity with others.

Renewal of vows

When couples consider renewing vows at their anniversary, the assumption is that this will be a big party in which the vows are renewed as a second public commitment made to each other. As it is not a legally binding ceremony, couples can make the event as intimate or elaborate as they wish.

A day full of surprises

Make your anniversary a day to remember. Both book the day off work. Surprise your kids with a sleepover at their best friends’ homes so that you and your beloved are entirely free to do what you want. Turn off phones and social media so that you have the freedom to enjoy time together full of love and laughter. In advance, create a playlist of your favourite music, including your first dance song from your wedding day. Have the kitchen stocked with your favourite food and drink, with Champagne or prosecco chilled ready for breakfast in bed. Watch your favourite comedy, look through your wedding photographs and be as sentimental as you wish.

Always remember a gift

The gift itself should be something special that your beloved would not buy for themselves because they cannot justify it. Your choice of anniversary gifts can be taken from the list of traditional gifts, flowers, gems and colours that represent each year. You could surprise your sweetheart with a stem rose in different colours every couple of hours so that by the end of the day she will have a beautiful bouquet that will decorate your home for a few days after your anniversary.

You could mix and match your gifts for her to find around the house.  Leave little notes around the house to declare your love. Wedding anniversaries should not be celebrated only at home. Revisit the restaurant where you had your first restaurant meal together.  If this is not possible, choose a location as similar as possible.  This is a perfect chance to reminisce about the day and how you fell in love then or later.

A party

A popular wedding anniversary celebration in 2021 will be a party to which family and friends can be invited. With most people having spent at least some time under restricted movement orders, a party is a chance to reconnect through marking a happy event. You could hire a marquee in the summer so that there is space for young children to run around. You could have a small gathering of the closest friends who have supported you in the last year and a separate meal for close family.

Mini holiday

Taking a mini holiday in 2021 is one of the best ideas for celebrating a wedding anniversary in 2021 since most of us have been staying at home far longer than usual in the past year. Taking a short break with your partner could be a simple weekend camping trip at a beach or riverside campsite an hour from home. You could meet up with friends and family whilst you are there or book a night at an Airbnb in a city you both love.

Mark the day with a portrait

However you choose to celebrate your own wedding anniversary in 2021, hire a photographer to capture some special moments. This works not only for those who want to have a lavish party to thank friends and family for their support but for every celebration of your anniversary. A photographer could take a photograph just of the couple or however many you wish, in your own home or garden. If this is too expensive, leave disposable cameras around the room of your party so guests can take their own photographs, or take your own photographs using the same backdrop every single year, creating your unique tradition.
