What makes a good anniversary? A nice, romantic weekend trip? A delicious meal at a high-class restaurant? Under quarantine, the first activities that jump to mind aren’t exactly feasible.

Wondering how to celebrate your wedding anniversary during quarantine? These fun, simple ideas will help you transform your home into the perfect place for a date.

Exchange Gifts

Don’t forget the gifts! If you’re the traditional type, follow the classic anniversary gift guide—paper for the first year, cotton for the second (think tablecloth linens or chair cover set), leather for the third, wood for the fifth, and so on. Be creative with these. Paper can mean a heartfelt card, leather can mean a purse or wallet, and wood can mean a new piece of furniture.

If you’d rather do your own thing, think carefully about what your partner’s interests. Are they a fan of watches? Get them a new one! Do they like plants? Video games? Could they use some art supplies? Pick something that they’re sure to love.

It’s hard to mess up when you have your partner’s best interests in mind, but just to be safe, here are some wedding anniversary gift mistakes you don’t want to make.

Make Homemade Cards

Another way to celebrate your wedding anniversary during quarantine is to make your own handcrafted cards.

Store-bought cards are great, but for an extra-special personal touch, try making one yourself! You don’t have to do it alone, either. Make it into a craft you can share together.

Sit down with your partner, drag out your craft supplies, and make each other cute, handmade cards, Valentine’s Day-style. They can be heartfelt, sweet and simple, or even humorous. Write down some compliments and other declarations of love. When you’re done, exchange them!

Treat Yourself

Who doesn’t love a good spa day? Fill some oversize plastic bins with water, put on a face mask, and sip on some wine. With a bit of creativity, you can transform your home into a personal makeshift spa.

Give each other massages and light some candles or incense. For the full experience, turn on some calming, meditative music. The self-care will leave you and your partner glowing!

Recreate Old Memories

It’s a classic method for celebrating your anniversary. Pick out one of your favorite experiences—it could be your first date, your first dance, or the day you met—and recreate it!

There’s one benefit to quarantine, and that’s privacy. Turn the music on and dance your heart out! There’s no one to stop you and your partner from trying out some cool, crazy dance moves.

Was your first date at a particular restaurant? See if you can order a meal for pick-up or delivery.

Watch a Movie

Missing the theatres? Have a movie night!

Choose a movie with your partner. It can be a newly released film or an old classic. Looking for some nostalgia? Rewatch the first movie you saw together. Pop some popcorn, bundle up in some blankets and cuddle close, and enjoy.
