When you think about packing for a vacation to a tropical or desert climate, you’d probably imagine it’s fairly simple—sunglasses, swimsuit, sandals. While we wish packing for vacation was this simple, even packing for trips to places with warmer weather can get complicated fast.

We know not everyone can be a luggage-packing expert, which is why we’re here with packing advice. In addition to encouraging you to start packing a week or two in advance, we offer the following tips for packing a warm-weather vacation.

Pack Light and Lightly

When you overpack, you leave no room for vacation trinkets for families, friends, or any vacation purchases for yourself. A trick to packing successfully for a warm-weather vacation is to pack light, but we mean that in two different ways—pack less and pack light clothing.

While it’s nice to have a variety of options when it comes to vacation fits, be realistic with yourself. Limit your clothing items and jewelry by including something versatile, like drop earrings. One of the best tips for packing lightly for a warm-weather vacation is to pack clothing materials that are highly versatile.

One of the many advantages of maxi dresses and rompers is that you can wear them for a variety of occasions. Their versatility makes them a convenient clothing item to pack. Plus, most of these style options are made with lighter textiles, making them easy to roll up and tuck away in any luggage.

Still, Bring a Jacket

Yes, a jacket! Even if the forecast alludes to a warm and sunny time, you’ll still want to stow a light jacket in case the weather changes its attitude.

Even the hottest places can become unabashedly chilly at night. Packing a light jacket with you will prevent the need to buy an overpriced sweatshirt from the gift shop on a night out.

Rely on a Versatile Bag

As we mentioned, you want to have a versatility first mindset when packing. So, when deciding which bag is right for the trip, try totes. Tote bags are lightweight, durable, and offer plenty of storage.

A tote bag’s range puts it at the top of our list for vacation-friendly bags. You can find tote bags made from all kinds of textiles, so you can keep it casual and cool with cloth or canvas or refined with faux leather. Either way, you’ll have plenty of room for the essentials during your vacation endeavors.
