Wonderful Ways to Preserve and Protect the Memories of a Loved One

by RAKI WRIGHT

When someone we love passes away, we experience a rollercoaster of emotions. From despair and sadness to anger and frustration, we push people away, yet we want them close, it’s a terrible time for everyone involved.

During this period of upheaval and sadness, it’s only natural to want to keep the memories of our loved one close to us and preserved. Not just for today, but for the future. It’s human nature to want to be remembered, so searching for ways to keep the memories of a loved one alive will bring us comfort and reassurance during this upsetting time. With this in mind, I’ve gathered some wonderful ways you can preserve and protect the memories of your loved one, with something to suit every relationship and sentiment. Read on to find out more.

Decorate Your Home with Memories

Photographs are the simplest and easiest way to capture happy moments and precious memories, therefore decorating your home with these precious memorials will bring you comfort and even raise a smile as you go about your day with your loved one watching over you. You could keep things simple with some framed photos or decorate your walls with shaped photo tiles, and create a diverse collage or photo wall of memories, dedicated to your loved one – you can buy photo tiles here. High-quality photos and canvases can capture the moments you cherish the most, flawlessly ensuring that they’ll last and be enjoyed for years to come.

Collect Up Their Recipes

Does your loved one have a flair for cooking? Perhaps they’re famous for creating a particular dish, or maybe there’s something you can’t wait for them to cook or bake when a special occasion comes around. If your loved one is still with you, consider writing down these recipes or even recording them making these dishes at home. It’s a wonderful way to preserve their legacy and keep their memory alive.

Create A Memory Box

Creating a special place where you can collect and preserve some special keepsakes will bring you comfort and help you feel connected to your loved one, no matter how much time has passed. You can place anything inside a memory box, from a pair of glasses to their favorite watch or piece of jewelry, their perfume, photographs, letters, and other simple yet emotive items that help you preserve your connection.

You can also pass on these heirlooms to the next generation when the time is right. The memories that you have of your loved one stay with you all their life, so it is very important to preserve the memories for a future date in case anything happens to them. To preserve those memories, there are different types of keepsake urns that can be purchased. They are made up of metal and glass, and most of them will hold any type of memorabilia that may belong to your loved one.

Interview Them

This one sounds like something straight out of a Hollywood movie, and it sounds a little awkward, but when the time comes, you’ll be so glad you did it. If your loved one is still with you, consider interviewing them about their lives and recording these sessions – audio or video. You may find out new things about them that you never knew, you’ll feel a little closer to them, and you’ll be able to look or listen back on these interviews with comfort and reassurance.

Get a memorial engraved on a bench

This is definitely not something that everybody will be able to do either. However, if possible you could get an engraved plaque from The Engraving People for a park bench which would be even more poignant if you live in a close community.

Final Thoughts…

Preserving the memories of the people you love the most is important. Consider the options above to get started.
