Toys litter the floor. Pet hair covers the floors and furniture. The carpet appears grimmer than ever. Something needs to be done.

The Best Ways To Keep Your Carpets Cleaned With Kids

But what can you do to keep your carpets clean when you have kids running around at all hours? Continue reading to find out the best ways to always have a clean carpet in your home.

Clean Small Stains Immediately

Life gets busy and tiring. It’s tempting to ignore the droplets of juice that spilled from the top of the cup onto the carpet. Even though you don’t want to clean it up, you know it’s what’s best.

Try your best to clean up all small stains as soon as possible. It prevents the stain from soaking deep into the carpet’s fibers and causing a permanent blemish.

Using a clean, damp cloth is the first step to removing most stains. Use a natural carpet cleaning solution after blotting with the cloth for deeper cleaning. Using ingredients like white vinegar, baking soda, and water will remove the stain in no time!

Use Ice To Remove Sticky Substances

Kids often play with sticky items such as chewing gum, candy, slime, and putty. Did you know you can use ice to help break away these sticky substances from carpets?

Place ice cubes in a sealed plastic bag, then wrap the bag in a towel. Set it on the stain, then wait for about 10 minutes. Once the substance is frozen, you can gently pick it away.

You may need to use a cleaning solution to fully remove the substance, but the ice method is a nifty trick to remove most sticky substances stuck to carpeting.

Vacuum Every Three Days

Remembering to vacuum just once a week is a chore! However, try to vacuum it at least every three days to produce a carpet that’s like new. Once a day is ideal, but it’s illogical to believe a busy family can have ample time to vacuum daily.

It’s best to develop a schedule to arrange which days you can vacuum each carpeted room. Sticking to this schedule will make the difference for your carpet.

Create Habits Around Protecting the Carpet

Children absorb so much information when they’re young. If you persistently enact a routine, your children will consistently follow as they grow older.

Never walk on the carpet with outdoor shoes. Your kids will get into the habit of putting on their shoes just before walking outside and taking them off as soon as they enter the house.

You can also encourage helpful habits such as only using cups with lids or never eating on the carpet. Instilling these simple habits will have the biggest impact on your carpet’s quality in the long run.

Have Your Carpet Cleaned Regularly

The last step for keeping your carpet clean when you have kids is regularly having a professional cleaning service refresh the carpet. Bacteria and mold develop beneath the carpet’s fibers, creating an unhealthy living space, especially for young children.

As you stick to your carpet cleaning routine, remember to schedule a professional cleaning once every year to rejuvenate your carpet. It will look new and create a truly clean environment for your family.
