Why Washable Rugs Are More Ideal Than Other Type of Rugs

by RAKI WRIGHT

It might be days, weeks – possibly even months – just to look for the right rug that will suit your living room, kitchen, and bedroom. But eventually, you will find the perfect fit, color, and design you and your spouse can agree on.

You arrange the rug properly on the floor, then start purchasing furniture and decoration pieces that will match it. Everything is absolutely perfect, and then—splat! —your adorable little kiddo thinks it would look far better to put spaghetti sauce on it. Fun times, right?

Well, worry no more. With washable rugs, you may upgrade the appearance of your room—without the difficulties of laborious washing, expensive commercial cleaning, and putting more rugs in landfills.

Usually composed of sturdy and compact materials, washable rugs and runners are practically rugs you can merely wash in your personal washing machine—no special equipment or expert skills necessary.

Why Choose Washable Rugs

Children, dogs, and high traffic can all have a detrimental effect on your rugs, particularly in spaces such as family rooms, nurseries, bedrooms, and playrooms. Having the choice to wash the rug is such a convenient feature for the hectic schedule of the parents who also like their homes to look decent.

As a result, an increasing number of individuals are investing in an easy-to-clean rug that could become good as new after being washed in the washing machine. Below are the top reasons why you should get washable rugs over other types of rugs.

Ideal if you have children.

We have heard people claim that they have long scrapped the idea of purchasing rugs for their houses after having children. Others even create zones in their homes that are off-limits to children.

Experts believe that style and functionality do not have to be mutually exclusive. That is why washable rugs are designed to be stain- and water-resistant, as well as machine washable—perfect for child-friendly areas of the house where stains, spills, and accidents cannot be avoided.

Perfect if you have pets.

When you have furry friends in your house, you are probably aware of the distinct pet stench that would linger in rugs. Moreover, pets are infamous for leaving their imprints all over the place with their muddy paws that could stain your rug.

While this is natural, it should not dissuade you from incorporating rugs into your house. Washable rugs can easily be washed, and it usually stain-resistant and pet-friendly.

Furthermore, this type of rug usually features a water-resistant barrier that keeps fluids out and protects your floors.

Perfect for those with allergies.

Let us accept it: high-pile rugs and carpets are allergy breeding grounds. They accumulate dust, pet bander, pollen, dust mites, tiny insect parts, and many more.

While some individuals are more tolerant of these environmental irritants than others, if you are allergic or susceptible to this kind of substance, a lower-pile rug that you can also wash as needed is perfect for you.

Great for locations with high traffic that are prone to dirt.

Whether it is the entrance, kitchen, mudroom, or living room that leads to your patio or backyard – these are high-traffic areas that can easily accumulate dirt more quickly than others. For these areas, washable rugs are ideal to use as they are more resistant to dirty shoes and paws.

Of course, you could always request that visitors may remove their shoes prior to entering your abode. Still, in the event that they do not, you now have a contingency plan.

Excellent for decorating designs that call for white or light-colored accents.

There are various popular home décor styles today that will incorporate an all-white pattern. But as vibrant and stunningly beautiful as they look, lighter-colored rugs, such as cream, ivory, white, or beige rugs, are difficult to sustain and keep clean.

On the other hand, a washable rug will enable you to enjoy these trends more conveniently.

Less expensive.

The majority of professionals advocate having your carpets or rugs cleaned professionally, usually once a year. According to experts, the majority of professional rug cleaning businesses charge between $2 and $5 per square foot, which equates to a $160 to $400 cleaning fee for a regular 8’x10′ rug.

That adds up to $4,000 over a ten-year period. And this is assuming you can go an entire year without washing your rug!

With washable rugs, you can simply toss it in the washing machine, and it will be fresh and look new again.

Environmentally friendly.

Aside from the added savings that you will get from not buying rugs frequently, purchasing a washable rug that you could use for a long time is good for our environment. Those soiled rugs we discard are taking up room in landfills due to their inability to biodegrade.

Choosing the Ideal Washable Rugs

Ascertain that it is truly machine washable. Even if it is labeled as machine washable rugs, it was discovered that a surprising number of washable rugs are not genuinely machine washable. Before you purchase, double-check the details; if you are unsure, research the brand first.

Check the size. Washable rugs come in a variety of sizes and shapes, so if you plan to purchase a large one, you should check that your washing machine is large enough to accommodate it. Otherwise, it may need to be cleaned in a commercial-size machine.

Check the material used. Numerous washable rugs are made of synthetic materials, making them more resistant to the movement of washing machines. On the other hand, Washable rugs are made of natural materials such as wool and cotton that are easy to clean.

What Characteristics Make a Rug Washable?

The main factor which determines if the rug is safe for laundry or not would be its material. Experts stated that if all the materials used to produce your rug are washable, the whole rug must be.

But that does not imply that all rugs built from washable materials are washing machine-ready; certain stitching, glues, and colors would not hold up well in washing machines.
