Practical Tips To Soundproof Your Baby’s Nursery

by RAKI WRIGHT

Sleep is precious for babies as it boosts growth and keeps the little ones happy. As a parent, you can get free time to relax and complete your tasks while your baby catches up on sleep.

But noise can keep your bundle of joy from getting enough rest. You may lower the TV volume and control unruly siblings, but you cannot do much street sounds and noise from neighboring homes. The only way to preserve your baby’s sleep is by soundproofing the nursery. Here are some practical tips new parents can rely on.

Arrange furniture against the walls

Arranging furniture against the walls is the easiest way to block sounds from the other side. Whether designing a nursery from scratch or planning a makeover, consider this simple decor measure. A bookshelf is an excellent way to insulate the wall and muffle the noise from adjoining areas. You can also place a cabinet against it and decorate it with stuffed toys. Placing more furniture pieces in the nursery is a good idea as sound tends to echo in vacant spaces.

Deck up the walls

Pretty walls for your baby’s nursery do more than enhance the aesthetics. Decking them up with baby pictures, fabric paintings, and even thick quilts can prevent external sounds from entering the room through the walls. You can opt for heavy wallpaper for better and long-term results. The more space you can cover, the better it is from a noise-proofing perspective. So get as creative as possible with the nursery wall decor.

Invest in soundproof windows

Most Americans take up DIY projects for nursery makeovers because they want to do their bit to welcome their bundle of joy. But you must call experts to install soundproof windows as they ensure a quiet environment in the nursery. Look for experts for soundproof windows nyc if you live in a high-traffic New York neighborhood. You must do it even if living in a relatively peaceful suburb because your baby’s sleep is non-negotiable.

Seal the door

Besides switching to soundproof windows, you can seal the door because it is another noise-entry zone for the room. You can do it easily by sealing the gaps with heavy-duty weather stripping, just as you do for exterior doors. Consider replacing the door with a solid-core variant if you can spend more on the project. There is hardly a chance of the outer noise disturbing your little one.

Add carpets and rugs

You may end up waking the baby more often than you want if the nursery flooring is hardwood. The sound of your steps can startle the little one every time you walk into the room. Adding carpets and rugs can minimize the echo from walking. Choose one made of wool instead of cotton because wool has better insulating qualities. Soft rugs are good for the baby as they provide crawling comfort and prevent fall hazards once the toddler gets on her feet.

Soundproofing your baby’s nursery is easier than you imagine, and it is worth the investment. Follow these tips to preserve your little one’s sleep and enjoy stress-free parenting.
