Do you dread having several gift giving occasions coming up this year? Don’t miss these five fantastic (and super easy) ways to find out what the special ones in your life want!

What’s the easiest way to find out what someone wants? The answer is simple. Listen closely.

If you observe your loved ones closely, you will notice certain topics that make their eyes light up. These moments are your opportunity to mentally catalog (or even better, write down) the birthday gift ideas that will have a strong impact on them.

You can translate any passion into a gift idea, and if you’ve been paying attention over the past 12 months you will already know what your loved one will enjoy.

Here are five ways you can personalize a passion, an event or even other people through unique birthday presents.

Family portrait puzzles

Building a puzzle is a communal activity that everyone can be a part of. By giving a puzzle as a gift you are creating the opportunity for your loved one to spend time with one another—and hopefully with you!

If your loved one has a passion for their family, give them a customized puzzle of a family event or a photo shoot. Puzzles make excellent house art, so consider a frame voucher as part of the gift which can be used once the project is finished.

Craft beer

If you’re buying craft beer gift boxes for someone who loves beer, you’ll find a vast array of gift options in the craft beer industry. Beer can be made from a variety of ingredients & spices; including pumpkin, apples, watermelon and more.

You can also customize the beer bottles, the label, and the bottle caps. Essentially, you can create a one of a kind, six pack of beer that’s specially designed for your loved one.

Custom phone or tablet case

Just about everyone has a smartphone and/or a tablet these days. These devices need cases for protection. Consider making a case for your special someone – a case that represents something they love! You can really go wild with this one. Heere are some ideas:

  • Favorite vintage comic books or movie theme
  • Photos of family
  • Favorite hobby or pastime
  • Humorous quote
  • Thematic attachments
  • Coins from a favorite travel destination

Childhood novel

One of the most personalized gifts you can buy someone is a copy of their favorite childhood novel. This will always hit a tender spot in the heart of your loved one with this gift.

Speak to a parent, relative, or close friend and see if you can find out which book your gift recipient read as a child. You can further personalize this gift by adding an autograph or brief history about the author inside the cover.

A bucket list item

You can get a great gift idea by asking one simple question that won’t give away your intentions. “What are ten things you want to do before you die?”

Your loved one will answer the question and you’ll have loads of ideas to choose from. A travel destination, bungee jumping, eating a certain type of food or learning a skill are all possible bucket list items that YOU can make happen!

What tips do you have for figuring out the best gift to give?

In my opinion, making an attractive personalized card solves one big problem: you escape the issue of an impersonal, store-bought, mass-produced card. All these years, when we sent our loved ones greeting cards, it just felt like we were using someone else’s words and thoughts to communicate. It doesn’t mean you have to be a pro at art and craft to make a beautiful card. It’s the thought that counts and just the fact that you went ahead and made something to communicate emotions that are personal will make your special someone truly feel loved.
