Sometimes it really is better to give than receive, especially when we’re giving a birthday present to someone we love. Whether it be a sibling, parent, partner, or simply a friend who has always been there for us, it’s great to watch a smile light up their face.

Giving a great present doesn’t have to put a dent in your bank account, because sometimes the quirky, heartfelt gifts are the best of them all. With that in mind here are three outside the box birthday presents that are thoughtful, unique and filled with the magic ingredient: love.

Birthday Certificates

What’s even better than a homemade birthday card? A homemade birthday certificate of course. In case you didn’t know, a birthday certificate is something you hand to the birthday celebrator, upon which you promise to carry out certain tasks for them in lieu of a bought present. This could be housework, cooking, cake baking, a promise to take the person to a theater, or a gift of babysitting so they can head out and enjoy some precious time to themselves. The possibilities are endless, and thanks to online birthday certificate templates they’re incredibly easy to make and personalize.

An Online and Offline Birthday Party

Throwing a surprise birthday party for a loved one isn’t exactly a new idea, but it has stood the test of time because it’s always so appreciated. With the way we work and live today, however, there are always friends and family who just can’t be present. Thanks to modern technology, you can now bring those friends to the party after all by hosting a get-together that’s online as well as offline. Arrange for those who can’t be in town to connect via Skype, and live stream the party so that they can experience the fun too. It may take a little organizing, but it’s a great way for people to be there even when they can’t be there.

If you’re going the online route, you can easily buy an e-card and give a personal note, click here to see them!

Sponsor an Animal

If your friend or relative loves animals, why not get them something fun and exotic like a bear, tiger, or maybe even a whale? Don’t worry, we’re not talking about actually buying them to keep but rather sponsoring an animal, although exotic pet ownership across America is on the rise. Find out what their favorite animal is, and look online – you’re almost certain to find an opportunity to sponsor one, whether it’s in conjunction with a zoo or with an animal charity. The recipient of the gift will get regular updates on the animal and sometimes a soft toy as well, and added to this, of course, is the fact that your present will be helping with vital animal conservation work.

Sponsoring an animal, organizing a high-tech birthday party and presenting a birthday certificate are three gifts that are a little outside the norm yet will make a big impact. That’s because they’re thoughtful and loving. And of course, it’s a bonus that they can also be relatively inexpensive.
