Creating a custom t-shirt for your family

Custom t-shirts have been trending for quite a while now. Although designing a t-shirt might seem fun and easy, it can be hard.

Here are some tips that will come in handy if you are thinking about creating some matching family t-shirts:

Choose a T-shirt Type

As you probably know, t-shirts come in different shapes and sizes, including polo necks, round necks, and V-necks. The type of t-shirt that you opt for can help you to choose a unique design option. For instance, if you choose a long-sleeved t-shirt, you can utilize the sleeve length for printing.

If you have no idea where to start when it comes to custom t-shirt printing, you should approach a reputable custom shirt printing company for help. If you’re creating something for your kids, make sure that you ask for help from them – this will make them feel included.

Determine the Placement

Will your design wrap around the entire t-shirt or be at the top left corner? Because you are choosing a fun non-promotional design, the placement does not have to be at the center of the t-shirt. You can choose to place your design at the back of the t-shirt if that is what you want and everybody agrees to it.

Understand the Printing Options

Printing is the most important aspect of designing a custom t-shirt. If you know the printing method that you would like, go for it. Otherwise, You can also search online for t-shirt printing in dallas or it would be wise to learn the different techniques that printers use. Here are the most popular printing options:

Heat press printing

If you do not want to spend a lot of money printing t-shirts, this is the best technique. It produces small quantities and works best for complex designs, which is probably what you will end up with if your kids have anything to say about it. However, you should choose light-colored fabrics when using this printing technique.

Dye sublimation

This technique works best for polyester fabrics but not as well on cotton ones. This type of printing makes the fabric durable. If you are willing to spend a bit more on the printing, dye sublimation produces great and professional results.

Direct to garment

If you want to have a complex design, this is the best printing method for you. This technique also offers a smooth finish, which can be a good thing for some people. Moreover, the DTG inks that the technique uses does not add any extra layers to the t-shirt.

Companies like Mato & Hash offer customizable goods, so you simply just upload your design and start creating.

Machine embroidery

Embroidery used to be a beautiful way to decorate clothes that required hours of sewing by hand. In these modern times, you can now “print” sewn patterns thanks to computerized machine embroidery equipment. Simply send the pattern (these come as EMB files) to the machine and it will quickly create the pattern before your eyes. This option is perfect when you want to make a professional-looking logo shirt or uniform. You may need to hire a digital designer to make the EMB file if the design you want is a custom one.

Screen printing

If you want to print a premium design, this is a great technique. Screen printing gives your t-shirt an impressive look that is unique. However, this method might not work for you if you want a design with multiple colors.

Find a Good Designer

Although having a good understanding of how things work is nice, you should leave the complicated stuff to the experts. Things such as designing a logo design are not as easy as you might think. In this digital world that we live in, it is quite easy to connect with a good designer online.

Find a good designer

If you want a professional graphic designer, you should hire one to come up with a professional design for your t-shirts. However, you can still ask your children for their input. This way, you will not take the fun out of the entire process. Your kids will love to see their vision come to life in the hands of a good designer.

Conclusion

Creating custom designs with your family can be fun. You should find a great designer, determine placement, choose a t-shirt type, and understand all the different printing options.
