Is finding the perfect swimsuit to accentuate your body type and make you look and feel your best like searching for a unicorn? Every year some women simply dread shopping for a new swimsuit, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Here are four great tips that can help make the process simple and perhaps even fun.

Let’s face it; shopping for swimsuits can be one of those situations where you drag your feet for so long that summer is almost over.

Finding the perfect swimsuit online that accentuates your body type and makes you look and feel your best can feel like finding a unicorn.

Every year some women simply dread shopping for a new swimsuit, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

With a little knowledge and a whole lot of patience it is possible to find your new favorite swimsuit. Whether you have an epic beach vacation coming up or simply plan to hang around the pool with your friends or family, having the right swimsuit will really spice up your summer adventures.

If you struggle with finding the right swimsuit, these are four great tips that can help make the process simple and perhaps even fun.

1. Know Your Body Type

There’s a saying that states the best way to get a bikini body is to just put a bikini on your body. Women come in all kinds of beautiful shapes and sizes and swimwear designers know this now more than ever.

Whether you’re curvy or thin, have a large bust or a small one, there is a swimsuit that is perfect for you.

You know your body better than anyone else and you also know what style of clothing makes you feel beautiful. However, it can be a bit frustrating to put a label on your body, but this is the best way to ensure that you’re shopping for the best possible swimsuit.

2. Think About Your Lingerie

Do you have a bra and panty set that you just love? Is there a piece of lingerie that really makes you feel great about your body?

Tuck those pieces into your purse and head down to your favorite swimwear retailer. With these garments in hand it can make things much easier, especially when you’re able to compare these pieces with swim separates and choose the ones that match the best.

It’s easy to match your garments with photos in an online store, just be sure to allow enough time to return it if you accidentally get the wrong size.

3. Play Up or Minimize Strategically

Swimsuit styles are more varied today than ever before. Gone are the simple bikini and one-piece styles and in their place are myriad choices for every body type. Designers have created styles that play up your assets and minimize perceived flaws and they do this in incredibly stylish ways.

For instance, if you’d like to conceal your tummy, a plus size tankini might be your best bet. If you’d like a style that accentuates your bust consider a triangle top with ruffles or a push-up bra style.

There are so many choices that it can be hard to pick just one, but this also means that you’ll get the style that will make you feel beautiful.

4. Choose the Right Color

Color can make a big difference in how a swimsuit looks and by knowing a bit more about color and patterns you can be better prepared to find the look that works for you.

Not only can the right color flatter various body types, but choosing the right color for your hair and skin tones can result in a fabulous look.

For instance, blondes with pale skin look great in red and earth tones. Women with dark skin can pull off bright purples and other jewel tones.

In addition, color blocking and other interesting patterns can give the illusion of a slimmer waist or draw the eye upward if you’d like to show off your bust.

Also think about how the color will look once your skin is tanned. If you’re pale now but plan to get a spray tan before swimsuit season, you’ll be better off choosing a color that will match your future skin tone.

As clothing designers adopt more body-positive styles and branding messages, it becomes easier for women of all shapes and sizes to find their new favorite swimsuit. Go into your swimsuit shopping adventure armed with these tips, and you’re practically guaranteed to find the style and size that it perfect for you.
