Knowledge and skills require time and effort to progress, and it would be the best idea to start teaching your children about the lessons you’ve learned. You should help your kids develop their survival skills so that they can take care of themselves in case you are not around.

It involves learning how to stay alive by producing the necessities humans need. Your children must realize that even at a young age, they should be able to fend for themselves if needed.

Survival skills involve physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual factors. To guide you in teaching survival skills to your children, here are some tips to follow.

Introduce Organic Foods

Among the basics of survival skills is knowing how to make your food, and growing vegetables can be a good start. Growing your own vegetables can be a hard skill to master, but it is important to teach your children how a plant grows and how to take care of them. If you do not have a green thumb, there are available references and online tutorials on growing vegetables from seeds.

Plants are not just for eating, but some contain medicinal characteristics that can be beneficial to us. Some plants can heal wounds, and some plants can help cure illnesses.

Teach Them to Cook

Before you begin teaching your kids how to cook, they must first learn how to start a fire and know fire safety. It is essential to teach them to make a fire without the help of matches or lighter. Fire is important for survival, as it provides heat for cooking, light, and warmth for people in cold places. Starting a fire by using resources from your surroundings is a useful skill for survival.

Now that they know how to start a fire, teach your kids how to cook. They must learn how to open a can of food without using a can opener. Show them how to rub a can lid ridge on a cemented surface, then carefully pry open using a knife. It’s also imperative to teach them proper knife handling and what strokes to avoid to stay away from accidents.

Responsible Use of Weapons

One fun segment in teaching your children survival skills is how to use weapons responsibly. Carefully teach your children how to shoot a slingshot, or maybe shoot a bow or gun (from reputable hand gun brands), if they are of the right age to use a weapon. Demonstrate how to use these weapons for hunting and fishing. Make sure that they understand the danger of handling such weapons.

Tie Knots

Learning a variety of tying knots is important, and it has many uses. Teach your children some basic and advanced knots, and when it is applicable to use. Tying knots is also essential in boating. If the boat gets stranded in the open sea, the best way to keep it moving is by sailing. Check the boat properly before heading out to the sea, and it would be best to use durable t-tops for center console boats to give you assurance during the voyage.

Defend Themselves

Another important survival skill for everybody to develop is self-defense. No matter how much you avoid it, there will always be bad people who will try to take advantage of you. If you teach your children some self-defense, they will have a chance to prevent any untoward incident from bad people.

Preparations

Teaching your children some survival skills will take months or even years of practice. Train them to be hard-working and independent, all while being patient as they learn.
