As a mom, you probably put your husband, children, and work before taking care of yourself. It’s just the way we think. However, if we don’t make taking care of ourselves a priority, our mental, physical, and emotional health can take a serious beating.
Here are five simple things that you should do for yourself every day:
1. Take care of yourself first.
It goes against our very nature as women and moms to take care of ourselves. To take this a step further, we would never think to take care of ourselves first. Beginning your morning routine with something you enjoy is a great way to build a long-lasting habit. I believe these four habits make for a more relaxed, happy, and productive mom.

2. Do something to pamper yourself.
Moms deserve to be pampered. Often, it can be hard to carve out the time (or the funds) to do something just for you. But, hopefully, you can find something on this inexpensive list that’s enjoyable and just for you! Even if you don’t like anything on this list, I hope you will think of things you can do just for you. Alone time, doing something you enjoy, is a recharging experience that you deserve.

3. Laugh.
Moms are often so busy working, taking care of their families, preparing meals, or getting their home in shape that they don’t take time to just be silly…or laugh.
Why Laugh? According to WebMD, we change physiologically when we laugh. We stretch muscles throughout our face and body, our pulse and blood pressure go up, and we breathe faster, sending more oxygen to our tissues.

4. Accept help when it’s given and ask for it when you need it.
You don’t have enough time to get everything done. Sometimes you can find more efficient ways, ask someone else to help, or get creative to just get it done. Other times, you may simply need to let it go.
Time is the most precious and limited resource we have. You can never create more of it. You can only use it differently. Ask your husband, older children, extended family, and friends to get things done.
It doesn’t matter who cooks dinner, cleans the toilet, or picks up the groceries. If you can afford it and need it, pay for any help you need, too. Without the guilt. It’s your life. You make the rules. Period.

5. Enjoy fresh flowers.
Why? Flowers have been proven to boost your mood, they add a decorative element to your room, and create a welcoming atmosphere. Flowers are also a great item to turn into multiple gifts.
A Rutgers University study found that the link between flowers and your satisfaction with life is far more important than previously thought. Having flowers in your home increased happiness, reduces depression and anxiety and actually can increase emotional contact with friends and family. A study by Harvard University found the same results – increased compassion, feeling less negative, and more energy at work.
So how can you get fresh flowers without visiting a florist or adding another item to your grocery list?
Introducing a new flower subscription service: BloomsyBox.
We provide beautiful flowers direct from farms around the world on a subscription basis. We appeal to the chic and discerning person that is excited to try new things and learn through discovery. That’s the concept of our subscription box.
I was recently contacted by this new company with an offer to receive one of their boxes to review for free. They wanted to know what I thought.
The representative told me that they had recently launched this subscription-based service in which they send monthly flowers fresh from farms to homes and businesses.
BloomsyBox enables customers to sign up for fresh and unique flowers with convenient monthly delivery at really affordable prices. A basic subscription costs $34.99 per bouquet for monthly delivery. Customers can also suspend service when they’re out of town (i.e. summer vacation).
Here are a have few major differences between Bloomsybox and the average floral supplier:
- First, no mixed bouquets with unnecessary extras – Bloomsybox only deals in “single-variety”- hand-tied bunches;
- Second, the flowers are sourced direct from suppliers in South America, Holland, Thailand and California meaning no middle-man mark-up to increase the price.
A few days after placing my order, I received this shipment by overnight delivery.
Since I spend most of the daylight hours at the office, I decided to take the package with me to work to enjoy them on my desk.
This is what the package looks like on the inside. Notice the care in how the bouquet is wrapped and how the stems are protected. They were stabilized so they would not bounce around in the box.
I don’t have a green thumb at all, so I had no clue what type of flowers these were. Thankfully, there was a cute little card inside the package informing me that these were Alstroemerias.
According to BHG.com:
Alstroemerias are best known as cut flowers, where their rich colors and lovely veining grace many a vase, where they’ll last for as long as two weeks. But they can also be grown in the garden, where they do best in light, well-drained soil. They bloom freely through the summer and come in almost all shades of the rainbow except true blue.
There was also a note explaining the appearance of the bulbs, when to expect them to bloom, and how long to expect them to last.
I received the “Bloomsy M” box which is priced at $38.99.
In addition to the flower card and instructions, I received a packet of Floralife Crystal Clear Flower Food (affiliate link). Flower Food encourages the flower to properly start opening, showing vibrant colors. It hydrates and nourishes the flowers for maximum enjoyment.
Day 1: I took my flowers out of the box, cut the bottom of the stems off, and added them to a container of water with the flower food provided in the package.
Day 6: After a few days, the blooms had opened and were really coming to life. Typical flower care instructions recommend cutting the stems every day, changing the water, and (optionally) adding an aspirin to the water. I took pretty good care of them and they lasted a good two weeks.
