Do you often experience skin chafing after a vigorous exercise routine or after a long day at work? Chafing is an uncomfortable and annoying skin condition seen in many individuals.

Chafing can occur at any place in your body, like armpits, thighs, groin, and nipples. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, petroleum jelly can treat rashes caused by chafing.

Chafe can damage the skin, causing severe pain, discomfort and in some cases, leads to infections. If you are facing this skin issue, it is essential to tend to your rashes immediately. Here are the main factors that cause chafing on your thighs.

Strenuous Exercising or Increased Physical Activity

The skin is a protective coating that guards your internal organs and maintains the overall hygiene of your system. Although it is a firm layer, it is susceptible to germs, heat, and physical harm.

When you are involved in any physical activity, you tend to sweat a lot. The salt from the sweat glands gets trapped in areas like the thigh and underarms. The moisture worsens the condition and leads to chafing of the skin. It is advisable to use moisturizers and well-branded chafing creams to treat your skin rashes and lubricate your thighs. In addition, you should use spandex or polyester clothes during your workout sessions.

Obese or Overweight Condition

Inner thigh chafing is commonly seen in obese and overweight people. When you have excess fat in your body, your thighs rub together while you walk or do any physical activity. The friction of the skin can cause further irritation. In the case of mild chafing, the symptoms are not visible.

When left unattended, chafe can lead to severe problems. These include blisters, bleeding, swelling, discolouration, and cracked or broken skin. Therefore, you must consider visiting a dermatologist in such cases to find a permanent cure.

Bad Fabric or Clothing

A particular type of clothing can cause chafing in your body. It includes fabric like cotton, denim, leather, or other coarse or scratchy fabrics. When this clothing rubs against your things frequently while you walk, sit, or run, it can result in a chafe.

Similarly, your skin keeps rubbing against the fabric and gets irritated if you wear tight clothing. Hence, you must wear loose, comfortable clothing which offers your skin space to breathe.

Moreover, a frequent traveler needs to be extra careful during your summer travel plans. It would be best to use anti-chafing guards and bands to keep your skin safe and enjoy your holidays.

Hot or Humid Climatic Conditions

It is normal to sweat profusely during hot and humid climatic conditions. You can feel a painful, burning sensation in such an atmosphere. Similarly, chafing can be seen in infants with prolonged use of diapers. The urine builds up moisture, and the diaper blocks airflow through the skin. Hence, cleaning up at regular intervals is essential to avoid severe skin infections.

In addition, it is advisable to use soothing lotions and balm when stepping out in the hot sun. You must wear proper-fitting clothes for travelling and exercise. You must keep your intimate areas clean and dry to keep your skin safe and healthy to avoid chafing.
