Be it mice, raccoons, squirrels, rats, or birds, there are several wild pests that can make life difficult for people in Hamilton, Ontario. Fortunately, protecting your property from such pests doesn’t have to be complicated.bird-feeding-safety-2

The below tips will get you started on the right track when it comes to wildlife prevention Hamilton.

Seal off entry points

Steel wool is a good choice if the animal is small enough. You can use this material as a barrier around windows and other areas where there are gaps in the frame of your home. Caulk is also an effective option for sealing off gaps in window frames, although caulk does not provide protection from larger animals that might try to burrow under doors or into walls as mice and rats do.

Hardware cloth can be used on both large openings and small ones alike by covering all sides of doors with it so no animals can find their way inside your house through these entry points either way.

Trim trees and shrubs back from the house

Trimming trees and shrubs closer to the exterior of your house will help ensure there are no pests hiding nearby that can enter your house when the door is ajar by mistake. Additionally, it will also give you a clear view of any pests that try to get into your house.

Hamilton is rich in wildlife and forests, meaning most houses here have ample backyard spaces. You can start by trimming back the plants at the edge of your property (like right along the driveway), then move outward in wider circles until all of the vegetation is trimmed back enough to keep wildlife away.

Keep garbage containers well-sealed

Make sure to keep your garbage containers well-sealed. The best way to do this is to keep them away from the house and use a tight-fitting lid. If you have a dog or other animal that might get into the trash, you can use a bungee cord to secure the lid so that it doesn’t come off easily.

Also, remember to dispose of garbage regularly. This will reduce the amount of food waste you have on your property, thus ensuring you don’t have anything lying around for those furry, unwanted visitors.

Don’t feed pets outside

Don’t leave food out for pets. Your pet might be hungry after a long day of playing in the yard, but if you’re not home to let them inside and help them eat their food safely, they’ll have to do without it until you get home again! It’s also important not to leave any uneaten scraps lying around that could attract unwanted visitors (like raccoons looking for an easy meal).

Conclusion

The tips mentioned above are just a way to prevent pests from entering your home. While these are effective most of the time, some pests may still find a small nook in your home to be a suitable shelter. If they start reproducing, you may end with a full-blown infestation. Therefore, such things need to be handled sooner rather than later.

The best way to go about this is to call experts in wildlife prevention in Hamilton. These experts have years of training and experience, and will be able to deal with a variety of pests such as skunks, rats, mice, raccoons, etc.
