5 Ways to Stay in Touch During The Holidays

by RAKI WRIGHT

The holidays are a time for joy and cheer, but they’re also a time to rekindle connections with your friends and family. Because families are now more spread out than ever before, it’s important to find a way to keep in touch even when you’re separated by distance.

A startling percentage of Americans report feeling stressed during the holidays, so it’s okay to return to simpler traditions that bring the whole family joy. In this guide, we’ll explore the best creative ways to stay in touch over the holidays — and all year long!

5 Ways to Stay in Touch During The Holidays

1. Create an Online Photo Gallery

How often do you share those photos you take with your friends and family? It’s easy to snap day-to-day photos of those little moments, but it’s also easy to forget to share them. While posting photos on social media is one way to stay connected, why not take it a step further with an online photo gallery?

You can easily create a family album through Apple Photos or Google Drive. This way, everyone in the family can upload their favorite holiday pictures all in one place.

2. Bring or Send Cookies

Who doesn’t love cookies during the holidays? Whether you’re using a family recipe or just Googling a new one, why not treat your loved ones to something special? Bonding over food is the best kind of bond.

If you live near your family, taking over a container of cookies is a great way to show you’re thinking of them. Even if they’re far away, you should be able to carefully wrap your cookies and mail them to your loved one. What a perfect holiday surprise!

3. Video Chat

Taking a few minutes to video chat with your loved ones will go a lot farther than a text or email. This is especially powerful if you live far from your loved ones and don’t see them often.

Call through the Say app to easily video chat with your friends and family. From there, you can catch up, bake cookies together, or partake in other holiday fun.

4. Share an Activity

If you can arrange a get-together, plan an activity. These are the shared experiences that we’ll always remember more than any physical gift. You can vacation in the mountains, visit a new city, or take a class together.

Even if you can’t arrange travel to see each other, you can still share in activities of the season. You can video chat while you watch a favorite holiday movie, or take letter-writing classes to send each other snail mail. Just get creative!

5. Make Food Together

Finally, why not make a cherished meal together? Whether you cook your own dishes while on a video call or you mail a favorite recipe to a loved one, these are the little things that bring everyone closer.

Not sure what to make? Try one of our favorite recipes or explore your favorite cookbook for some inspiration. You can cook as little or as much as you want, and you’ll know you’re doing it together.

Celebrate the Holidays Together

As more and more people struggle with holiday stress, try to find ways to cherish the small moments. That means bringing the family together, no matter how far apart you might be at this time of year.

These ideas above are perfect for families of all shapes and sizes. Whether you bake something sweet or do something together, these are the holiday memories you’ll look back on for a lifetime.
