Top Tips for Renting a Minivan

A standard crossover isn’t enough to go somewhere with a large family or company. And if a bus is too big for you, renting a minivan is the ideal choice. Car rental is a very useful service.

Differences of a minivan from other classes of cars

Minivans are a lot like large cars. And if you are choosing which car to rent for the family, you will choose between these options.

How to choose between a minivan and a crossover? Both cars are dimensional, roomy, with increased ground clearance and a spacious interior. But the key difference is that the minivan can transform the interior, adjust the seating and cargo space depending on the number of passengers. The crossover has no such function.

Often a minivan is confused with a minibus. Some people believe that there is the same type of transport. But such an opinion is mistaken. There are up to 9 seats in a minivan, and up to 16 in a minibus. For family trips, it’s better to rent a minivan.

Pay attention to the differences between the minivan and the station wagon. The main difference is in the body and the size of cars. The minivan is larger and roomier. The station wagon is designed for 5 seats.

Vans belong to a different class of cars and are not suitable for family trips. Their platforms are identical to those of trucks. Such vehicles have a completely different sphere of application. The fuel consumption of a minivan is no different from that of an average car.

Seating capacity

This is one of the most important parameters for choosing a minivan. Usually, a minivan has seven separate seats. If you see nine seats in the specifications, it means that the trunk can deploy the fourth row of seats. But such seats are more suitable for children — it can be uncomfortable for adults to sit there. Such cars belong to the category of family cars.

Also, available in five-seat minivan models, in which space for additional seats is given to the luggage compartment. So you can choose between the passenger seats and the luggage. So, if you have a family of 4-5 people, this model is enough. If there are more family members, or if you are planning to transport friends and large groups, consider minibus hire: Leeds or a car with more passenger seats.

Trunk size

Minivans have no specific division into subclasses, so the trunk volume should be considered separately for each model.

To understand which minivan is better to choose by capacity, you need to decide how much cargo you are going to carry. So, if you plan to move or want to carry large things like bicycles and baby carriages, choose the 9-seat model. They usually have a trunk volume of up to 1,500 liters with the rear seats.

Thanks to the height and length, as well as a large sliding door, it is convenient to carry passengers and place luggage in such a car.

Other aspects to consider

If there are small children in the family, it is necessary to take care that it is convenient to place child seats. Do not forget about safety: it is desirable that the minivan is equipped with side airbags in the back row. It should be possible to turn off the airbags where the child safety seat is located.

The most popular minivans for rent

Here you can rent a minivan for any length of time you like. The following are the top three models of minivans that are most frequently rented:

  • Mercedes Vito — It’s distinguished by its increased safety, sturdy body, and the presence of several important safety features: anti-brake, anti-tugger, and anti-lock brakes. Luggage belts are available.
  • The Mercedes Viano is a car with an improved transmission and light, smooth suspension, very easy to drive.
  • Volkswagen T6 — in this line, the definite advantage is given by the injected engine, comfortable interior, and reliable technical units. It is worth considering that the model has a rigid suspension and a quite noisy interior.

The minivan is a car model, which is more often rented for a large family, given the following characteristics: the capacity of the luggage compartment; the effectiveness of the security system; the comfort of the interior. Early pick-up — the best thing that you can do on your trip. And when choosing a rental minivan, do not forget about fuel consumption — because most often minivans are used for long trips.
