Everybody strives for a beautiful and healthy smile at the lowest possible cost. You may wonder if this is a possibility or if it must always be a financial burden. Well, the truth is that there are multiple ways to care for your chompers without emptying your wallet. Here are a few tips and tricks to help maintain a great and healthy smile for a low cost.

  1. Get dental insurance
Yes, there is an additional monthly cost to this but monthly premiums for dental insurance vary between $20-50/month. For the dental coverage that certain plans offer, it is worth the cost! Some of the best dentists in Howard County participate with most dental insurance plans.
  2. Go to the dentist regularly and start early
Children should begin going to the dentist starting as early as 12 months or even when their first teeth come in. Research suggests that the earlier a child starts regular dental check-ups, the less money is spent annually on dental care for the child. Adults should also follow this recommendation. As per a conversation with a top Howard County dentist, 6-month periodic dental exams are recommended for most adults. After all, prevention is always better than cure. It’s much better to spend on check-ups than end up having to pay more for treatments like root canals or tooth decay. More importantly, look for a reliable dentist like this Dentist located in Arlington for the best dental services.
  3. Follow a daily dental hygiene routine
Brushing twice daily for 2 minutes and flossing once daily really does make a crucial difference for your oral health. And don’t get lazy…do it every morning and night and be sure not to neglect any parts of your mouth. Rinsing with mouthwash and scraping your tongue is also a great addition to your regular home care regimen. It kills germs and leaves your breath feeling fresh. If you’re experiencing difficulty keeping your teeth clean due to the positioning, it may be worth a little bit of an out-of-pocket investment. In this case, you may get an Invisalign consultation from your local Invisalign dentist. Studies reveal that having straight teeth aid in their longevity and prevent periodontal disease which surely saves you a lot of money, pain, and discomfort in the future!
  4. Avoid sugary drinks
Yes, this includes all sodas and juices and anything else which contains a lot of sugar. Folks get in the habit of drinking their favorite and seemingly harmless drinks throughout the day, but in reality, this only covers teeth in sugar which then gets metabolized into acid by the bacteria in the mouth and begins to eat away at enamel! Stopping this habit will save your teeth from weakened enamel and frequent cavities. Not to mention, this can save your money!
  5. Drink fluoridated water
This is especially imperative for children as their adult teeth are still developing. If the tap water in your region is fluoridated, consuming it regularly is crucial for strong and healthy teeth. If your region is on well-water or another source which is not fluoridated, you may need fluoride supplement prescription for your children, which can be prescribed or dispensed by your dentist.
