Take a Day Off to Catch Up

If you can never get it all done, you may need to take a look at everything you’re trying to take on. In the meantime, a day off might give you the breathing room you desperately need.

If you can never get it all done, you may need to take a look at everything you're trying to take on. In the meantime, a day off might give you the breathing room you desperately need.

This is Day 6 of our 31 Ways to Get More Done series. To read all the posts in order, visit the introduction post to see the outline for the whole series.

Does this sounds like you? I can never seem to keep my house in order. I can do the general cleaning, pick up, sweeping, etc., but never get to the real deep cleaning.

My husband and I work so much that we can never find the time to do it all.

I need to get some serious organizing done and clean out old toys and clothing from our playroom & bedrooms. I just never know when I’m going to find the time to get it done.

I was thinking about taking a day or two off to work on my house, but I don’t know if that will just be a temporary fix and not solve the real issue.

Do you ever take days off to just straighten up your house and get things in order?

Yes!!!

Schedule time off. If your schedule is so busy that you don’t see an opening anytime in the near future, give yourself some breathing room by taking the day (or two) off.

Have a plan. I’ve taken days off to wrap Christmas presents. Sometimes you just need time to catch up. If you have time to take, it’s worth it. I’d rather take a day or two off to get caught up than to worry about feeling behind everyday.

Make is regular. Every few months, consider if you need to take a day off to catch up around the house. Give yourself permission to put on some loud music, organize, clean, and wash to your heart’s desire…without the kids around.

Don’t tell anyone (except your husband). What will happen if you do? Your mother will call and ask you to take her to the grocery store, the kids will want you to pick them up from school instead of riding the bus, and your girlfriend will want to take a long long with you. All of these things are good things, but they will not help you get the things done at home that you desperately need to be done.
