While peaches are ready as early as May and available until late September, peach season is at its peak in July and August (Source) At about$1 per pound, they are a tasty, affordable summer fruit option.
August is National Peach Month. China is the largest world producer of peaches, with Italy second.
California produces more than 50% of the peaches in the United States (and grows 175 different varieties).
So many peaches are grown in Georgia that it became known as the Peach State. Peaches are a good source of vitamins A, B and C. A medium peach contains only 37 calories.
You can ripen peaches by placing them in a brown paper bag for two to three days. Sliced, fresh peaches should be tossed in lemon or lime juice to prevent browning. (Source)
Wondering how to store peaches? StillTasty.com says:
- Store at room temperature until ripe — refrigerating peaches before they are ripe can lead to loss of flavor, texture and appearance.
- To hasten ripening, place peaches in a paper bag at room temperature, and check daily.
- Once ripe, place peaches in a plastic bag and refrigerate.
Over the last several weeks, there have been so many great peach recipes shared at the Motivation Monday linky party, so I thought it would be a great idea to share them all in one place.

- Blueberry Peach Tart I don’t know how that happened because this simple, juicy, blueberry dotted peach tart was so tasty. I had originally intended to make this with peaches and raspberries; however, when I went to retrieve them I came to find out little mouths had eaten the majority of those tart little jewels. Thankfully I adore blueberries with peaches just as much and they were the perfect addition to this quick, easy to make puff pastry tart.
- Peach Salsa The peach salsa I ate in 1993 was part of a gift basket my mom had received from a friend for Christmas. It was stuffed with things like chocolates and vacuum-sealed smoked salmon, and there was a jar of peach salsa with a bag of blue corn chips. The salsa was heavenly and sweet and spicy, and it’s really a shame my mom never got to try it because I think I singlehandedly polished it off myself. Here’s a version that’s close to the original, though you never really can completely recreate the first time you ever try something delicious, can you?
- Summer Strawberry-Peach Salad with Goat Cheese Try this scrumptious summer salad for your lunch or as a side with grilled chicken, pork or fish! It’s easy enough for weekdays but pretty enough for laidback dinner parties during the warmer months. I think it would be even better with a sprinkle of fresh basil.
I love peaches, and I will definitely have to check out these recipes! Thanks for sharing at Merry Monday!
