Back to school routines make it easier on you and your children. Use them to save time, money, and your sanity!

Back to school routines | back to school

This school year will be momentous. My 14-year-old son is starting high school! Also, my seven-year-old daughter will be in second grade.

The lazy days of summer are officially over. No more sleeping in (a little). Homework, parent teacher conferences, school lunches, and mounds of paperwork are back.

This post is sponsored by the Flat Harmony Whiteboard Weekly Planner.

With that being said, the back to school transition can hit you hard, if you’re not prepared. I’m sharing some of the back to school tips I followed to get our family ready this year.

Back to School Routines

Routines are the processes we subconsciously follow each day. Follow these steps to create a productive, efficient, and helpful daily routine to get you through the day.

Planning your week

I am all about to do lists, calendars, and planning. I make lists for the grocery store, tasks to complete for the day, and map out my goals for the year.

Each year, I look forward to buying a clean, new, blank calendar just to fill it up with tasks, birthdays, and plans.  So, when I was sent a Flat Harmony Weekly Whiteboard Planner to review, I was ecstatic.

When I get my new calendar each year, I immediately write in all of the birthdays, appointments, and anniversaries.

  • schedules (extra-curricular activities, sports practices/games, etc.)
  • meals
  • due dates
  • appointments
  • routines (morning, evening, after-school, daily, and Sunday night)
  • sleep
  • homework
  • chores
  • expectations and rules (i.e. bedtimes, technology, screen time, etc.)
  • organization
  • groceries and packing lunches/snacks
  • communication with your kids

One Simple Tool to Help You Plan Your Week

While goal setting for the year and planning for the month is important, sometimes all you can manage is one week (or one day!) at a time.

That’s why I LOVE this whiteboard:

Never forget anything again with this eye-catching 17” by 12” weekly magnetic planner. This dry erase board will organize your to do list in one place.

This dry erase planner is great for busy families because it has every day of the week nicely organized with a bonus section for notes. Jot down all of your chores, reminders, appointments, sporting events, recitals and work occasions.

Color code your planner how you want with the included markers or easily edit and erase your schedule. Kids will be able to cross off their own chores as they do them.

The strong magnetic backing is great for the fridge or even the office. Hang it on the side of your filing cabinet to have peace of mind that you aren’t forgetting any tasks at home or at work.

Many companies try to keep costs down by skimping on packaging and their customers often receive their planner in a damaged state.

With this magnetic board, you can be confident that you’ll receive an item packed in a sturdy box and in pristine condition.

Flat Harmony stands behind every product. Their guarantee says that if you’re unhappy with your magnetic whiteboard, you’ll receive a prompt refund or exchange – whichever you prefer.

WHY IT WORKS FOR ME

Great family calendar – fit on the side of my refrigerator perfectly.

Can note school holidays, early dismissals, doctor appointments, work schedules, and other events.

Dry erase option would allow one to quickly and easily make changes.
