For working moms, the right sized cat litter box is a no brainer for an easier and hygienic environment.

There are numerous choices to make out there with different brands coming up with innovative designs on a daily basis. A large litter box is convenient if you have space and it catches more litter that would have otherwise fallen to the floor. A small or compact litter box is ideal if you are short in on space.

Types of litter boxes

Litter boxes come in various sizes and shapes; all you need do is locate the one that is specific to your needs and is comfortable for the cat. With a large or small litter box, the choices are quite numerous to make so we will go over a few to set you up on a right foot.

Open Top Litter box

The open-top litter box is the most common type of litter box and has a pan with no lid on it. They are the easiest to clean and maintain because you don’t have to take out spare parts just to clean them. Some are also designed so owners can monitor the cleanliness of the litter box so that timely maintenance is made.  However, despite the low maintenance requirement, they don’t do much to control the odor which can be very offensive at times.

Covered litter box

As opposed to the open-top litter box the covered litter box has a lid cover of some kind. This cover helps to control the odor from the cat litter and allows the cat some level of privacy.  They also ensure that litters aren’t spilled on the ground by keeping them in place with a covered lid.

Modern designs either have entry points on the sides or at the top of the litter box. If you have a dog and want to keep the dog out of the business of your cat, buy a covered litter box for the cat.

Self-cleaning litter box

Self-cleaning litter boxes are one of the best options for working moms because of the ease of operation.  Cleaning a litter box one of the most inconvenient things that come with owning a cat. Fortunately, there are self-cleaning litter boxes that take care of all that hassles for you, thereby freeing up a lot of time to focus on other things or on your carrier.

Modernized self-cleaning litter boxes come equipped with sensors that recognize when a cat used the litter.  The sensors work to sift through the material and put the waste in a separate compartment that can be disposed of in no time.

Many self-cleaning litters are large and can accommodate two cats at a time so you should definitely give them a try if you are a multiple cat owner. The only drawback to self-cleaning litters is that because of the technological superiority to other types of litter they are more expensive to purchase. Some are also quite noisy when they operate and might end up scaring the cat.

If you do decide to buy a self-cleaning litter box, make sure you buy from recognized brands that offer high-quality designs to avoid the hassles of having to deal with a machine fails to function properly.

Hidden litter boxes

As the name suggests, hidden litter boxes are concealed in pieces of furniture on in areas far removed from the public eye.  The most common style of hidden litter boxes are those designed with a bench that has an opening on one end. This opening allows the cat to enter and exit the litter compartment.

Other Accessories

Accessories can play an important part in improving the functionality of a litter box system. Some can make it easier for you to clean the box or improve the way the box is used by the cat. Here are a few options we think will reduce the hassles of working moms:

Hoods and Open Boxes

Hoods and open boxes confer a lot of functionality to a litter box. Hoods can increase the height of a litter box or prevent the litters from falling to the ground. Some hoods go over the whole litter tray and serve as a means of controlling offensive litter odor.

Hooks

Hooks are an extra feature in litter boxes that help to hold in scoopers or liner bags. Hooks help to keep all compartments in one place but be advised that cats are known for playing with anything and all things in the environment. Once it discovers that the hooks or scooper is a plaything, you will find it hard to use.

Liners

Liners are a useful accessory to purchase with a litter box. Their usefulness comes into play when it’s time to clean the litter box.  Since litters can stick to the sides of a box using a liner to remove it from the sides of the trays is a great time saver.

Litter mats

You should purchase a litter mat along with your litter box because most of them are artistically appealing and serve as a base onto which the litter box rests.  They can collect the little particles from your cat’s paw’s, spilled litters and other small items that could mess up the ground.
