Adding plants to your well-designed interiors can not only lift the entire look of your dwelling but also add a tinge of freshness and serenity in the air. And if you’re to set your place with something different than usual, then bonsai is the best way to make your house more lively bringing in all the good vibes.

What is Bonsai?

Bonsai is the age-old Chinese art form of growing small miniature trees using an ancient method. It includes pruning the roots of the plants to control its size while wiring its branches to direct the growth of the tree.

Today, bonsai is widely practiced all across the world, with bonsai trees embellishing the decor of several homes and gardens.

The best bonsai trees to decorate your house with

If you’re planning to adorn your place with hydroponic pots like these miniatures, here are some beautiful types of bonsai trees to add to your list.

Snow Rose

Also known as “the tree of a thousand stars,” snow roses produce tiny leaves and clumps of small, beautiful white/pinkish flowers. It can blossom in every season but is profusely productive from early spring to autumn. It can well adapt to both indoor and outdoor environments.

Hence, you can either plant it in your garden or set it up in your room.  However, remember that they’re sensitive to temperature fluctuations and are stressed by any changes in the routines, leading to the loss of foliage.

Fukien tea

Fukien tea is the most popular bonsai species that can grow to a height of more than 12 ft. if planted in the ground surface. Nonetheless, it also flourishes indoors with small white flowers and red fruits all around the year.

It can thrive best when kept under direct light for at least six hours a day. But doesn’t do well in the temperature below 40 degrees. Hence, if placing it indoors, it is advised to keep the tree out for some time during summer and spring for its healthy growth.

Dwarf Umbrella Tree

Named after its umbrella-like canopy, the dwarf umbrella tree is a hardy evergreen plant that produces palmately compound pairs of 7 to 9 leaflets. It can sustain well even with low indoor lighting and low humidity, unlike other bonsai species.

However, the sap of the tree can often cause skin irritation in some people and even turn out to be toxic to the pets. Hence make sure to keep it out of the reach of animals.

Chinese Elms

Chinese elms are the easiest trees to grow, thus considered best for the beginners commencing with their first bonsai experience. The woody trunks, small leaves, and short nodes make them easy to manage and thrive into a healthy, wonderful bonsai tree.

More so, they can be easily trained through directional pruning and nurture well in all different soil types until they’re not left to sit in water or dry out completely. You can simply grow them from the clippings or fresh seeds of any mature Chinese elm around you.

Ficus

Ficus is one of the best houseplants and is compiled up with more than 800 species. Among this varied variety, ficus neriifolia and ficus Benjamina are the two most popular indoor bonsai species.

They require no high maintenance or specific conditions to flourish and are ideal for beginners. Producing small white flowers, they have milky saps that can often be seen leaking through the cuts on the ficus.

Practicing bonsai art can altogether be a fulfilling experience adding on the delights of beautiful bonsai miniatures to your cozy, little space. The exotic colors, textures, and shapes of the bonsai trees will surely revive the whole setting of your house while uplifting the decor and creating a positive aura all through the years.
