We all struggle with daytime tiredness, there’s no denying it. Some more so than others, but during our busy and hectic working lives, it can be difficult not to get sleepy during the day. Having to look after your kids, as well as yourself, can leave you feeling rather fatigued.
Mornings can be tiresome when trying to get kids ready. You’ve finally got everyone dressed, fed and out the house. Now it’s your turn, and you’re already exhausted before your working day has even begun!
Although it may be difficult to eliminate tiredness altogether, let’s look at some ways in which you can help keep those heavy eyes at a minimum.
Ensure you’re getting a good enough sleep
This is arguably the most crucial of all. Having a bad nights sleep can really affect your entire day, leaving you groggy, irritable, and craving junk foods.
There are a few factors that can contribute to getting a good nights rest. First of all, ensure you are getting enough hours in. Eight is the ideal amount an adult should get, which is not always easy for working mothers.
You might not be able to control whether you can sleep in or not, but you can dictate the quality of sleep you get each night. Get yourself wound down an hour earlier than usual. Put on some relaxing music and stay away from screens and anything that’s going to make you feel stressed.
Sometimes we can get a bad night’s sleep without even realizing. This can be the case if we’ve had a superficial sleep. Causes of this could include what’s going on with your REM cycle, vivid dreams, alcohol and the most common: sleep apnea.

Don’t drink too much coffee
Ironically, coffee can contribute to tiredness. Although the initial buzz can be a lifesaver and help us out on those early mornings, what comes up must come down.
We’re not saying cut out coffee altogether. That morning cup is fine, but multiple cups can lead to you crashing hard, feeling more tired than before.
Also, try and time your morning coffee an hour or so after you wake up, just to utilize that stimulation for the period you need it most.
Do something physical in the morning
We’re not saying do 10 miles running in the morning, but maybe just a light jog or brisk walk for twenty minutes. Of course, it’s difficult finding time if you’re getting kids ready in the morning. Learn a few easy ways I’m always prepared to exercise. How about trying it quickly before they get up? There are so many 30-minute workout options.
Doing a bit of physical activity in the morning can help wake your body up, get your heart pumping and muscles warmed up for the day.
Yoga is also a really good activity that gives you energy, limbers you up and also helps calm your mind if you’re feeling a little bit stressed about the day. See if you can get your kids to join a ten-minute session!
Drink water
As the average adult human body is 60% water, it is really important that it has enough h20 to function. Most of all our bodily functions need water, right down to our cells, tissues and organs.
Water actually gives you energy, providing you drink the right amount, which is around two liters throughout your day. Try some low sugar-flavored water, or fruit, if you struggle to drink the regular stuff.
Children’s bodies are made up of an even higher percentage of water (75-80%). So, ensuring they drink enough water is also vital for keeping their energy up and body functioning well.
Eat right
Getting less sleep, as mentioned, can contribute to eating junk foods This, in turn, can make you feel even more sluggish.
When it comes to maintaining energy during the day, stay away from high sugar, high salt and processed foods. These can all make you feel lethargic as they dehydrate you, and sugar can cause you to dip in the afternoon.
Don’t eat a high volume of carbohydrates either because they can have the same effect. Yet, make sure you do eat the right carbohydrates as they are your main source of energy. Foods high in iron are also key in being sources of energy.
