A Day in the Life of a Working Mom With a Blended Family

by RAKI WRIGHT

Every day this month, I will be featuring an interview with a working mom just like you. It’s called A Day in the Life of a Working Mom.

We’ll learn about what she does for work, her family life, and….her tips/tricks for getting everything done.

Kymberly

Today’s featured Working Mom is Kymberly!

Tell us about your family (married, significant other, children’s ages, etc.).

Married & we have 4 daughters (11, 14, 14 & 17). We are a blended family, my husband and I both have 2 daughters.

Where do you live?

I live in Hanover, MD right outside of Baltimore City.

What do you do for a living?

Director, Operations for a non-profit.

How do you fit blogging into the mix (if it’s not your “day job”)?

During lunch breaks, after work and weekends.

What is your typical day like?

I’m usually up at 6 am to do some meditation & prayer. I do a Guided meditation session via Periscope at 7 am.

We all start getting dressed, grab breakfast and everyone is out the door by 8:30 am.

Kids are home by 4pm and my husband and I get home between 5:30 pm & 6 pm.

We do dinner and spend some time together.

By 10:30 pm kids are going to bed and I do some blogging, promoting, and responding to emails.

What’s the best thing about being a working mom? What’s the hardest thing?

I love being able to help provide for my family. Sometimes I have to work late and don’t get home until after 8 pm,. That’s hard, especially when it becomes days at a time.

Do you experience guilt associated with being a working mom?

I do when I have to travel and the kids can’t go with me – that is the case the majority of the time.

How do you handle day to day responsibilities (meals, laundry, cleaning, chauffeuring kids, Dr. appointments, school meetings, etc.)?

I make sure we at least eat dinner together. I usually cook when I get home.

Everyone pitches in to keep the house clean.

I always make school meetings and doctor’s appointments even if I have to take time off during the day.

What are your top 3 – 5 tips for keeping everything together?

1. Stay organized. I manage to do’s the same way I do at work and for my blog/biz.

2. Try and have meals as a family (at least dinner).

3. Work together. Even if your kids are small (3 or 4 years old), they can put toys away.

4. Stay positive because your family is watching.

Guilty pleasures?

TV shows – Empire on Wednesday and TGIT on Thursday. Kids do their own thing during those times.

Is there anything else you’d like to add that you think would encourage other working moms?

It’s about having a healthy & well lifestyle, loving yourself, living your best life with confidence & unapologetically! – Keyword “LIFE” we get one shot at it…Make it GREAT!
