by RAKI WRIGHT

If your roof is in need of repair or, it looks like it has seen better days then you may be considering the idea of a new roofing system. If it’s been anywhere between 15-20 years since your roof was last replaced then you should probably look to get it replaced as a matter of standard home maintenance.

To help you on your way, here are the various types of tiling you may come across on your journey;

First of all, what is Tile Roofing?

For property owners looking for the longest-lasting form of protection for their roofs, tile roofing is one of the most beautiful (and popular) solutions. When correctly placed, certain tile roofs can last up to 100 years which is awesome when considering value for money but, what exactly is a tile roof? You’d need to know before getting stuck into making plans, wouldn’t you?

Well, on a sloped roof, a tile roofing system is made up of overlapping roof tiles that are securely bonded to a solid substrate or roof deck which is, essentially, a foundation for the tiles to be fixed to. Tile roofing installation is a highly technical subject…

It also involves the hiring of a contractor that has experience working with and installing a variety of materials used for roof tiling in Sydney, inducing shapes. Restaurants, resorts, museums, and churches are among the many residential, commercial, and historical structures with tile roofs.

Concrete Roof Tiles

Concrete tiles are a really common form of tile material, sometimes they are called cement roofing tiles and they are made from concrete and a mixture of cement, sand, water, and sometimes various dyes are added (for colour). Concrete tiles are factory-moulded into a broad variety of shapes and textures to imitate wood shake shingles, clay tiles, or slate tiles due to their fluid nature prior to curing.

Wind and roof hail damage are not a problem for them as they have superb durability qualities. However, while comparing clay roof tiles vs. concrete roof tiles, there is a price difference of which. It’s crucial to realize that clay tiles live much longer than concrete and may be a better financial choice.

Clay Roof Tiles

Clay roof tiles are one of the oldest types of roofing materials, dating back hundreds of years, clay is extremely moldable and, has a wide range of colour possibilities, it also holds its colour well. Traditional clay tile roofs were a natural orange or red hue… Today’s clay roof tiles are available in practically every colour and in dozens of interesting shapes. To create the feel of an older, more traditional home, many tile roofs are coupled with copper guttering and metal accessories.

Roof Tiles Made of Slate

Traditional, natural slate roof tiles are made of rock and are favoured for their natural beauty, durability, and lifespan. Slate roof tiles first appeared in the United States in the northeast region, where huge slate deposits were discovered.

Slate roof tiles are available in a variety of colours and textures. Colours vary based on the mineral concentration. Slate tiles come in a variety of colours, from black to gray to purple to red to rust. Many clay or synthetic roof tile solutions imitate the shape and texture of slate due to its popularity.
