7 Weekend Activities to Do With Your Family

by RAKI WRIGHT

If you don’t want your kids to stay glued to their mobile phones or gaming consoles every weekend, it is high time for you to plan weekend activities for your family. Not only will you control your children’s screen time, but it will also help you strengthen your bond as a family.

Here are some ideas to help you get started:

1. Go to the Zoo

Plan for a weekend trip to the zoo. This is an excellent idea if your kids love animals and want to know more about them. Seeing the animals in real-life is an exciting activity that they can look forward to. If you have older kids, ask them if they want to sit in on a lecture about animals to learn about their eating habits, lifestyle, and environment.

2. Head to the Science Museum

Most kids are still too young to appreciate fine art. If they find looking at painting to be a boring activity, you can bring them to a science museum to explore the various exhibits. These museums have multiple shows and exhibits that allow kids to enjoy marine life and learn more about mammals, reptiles, and endangered species. Check out your local science museum if they have a schedule of shows that your child can enjoy.

3. Attend a Live Sporting Event

Sporting events will always be a favorite activity for the family, no matter their age. Take out your jerseys and start supporting your favorite team at the stadium. If you are unsure of what sporting event your child likes, you can take a look at what they are playing on their gaming consoles to gain an idea. Make sure to find out what team they support so you can choose the right schedule of games.

4. Go Camping

One fun way to spend the weekend with your family is to go camping. Pick a spot where you can enjoy the wilderness with tons of activities. Introducing your children to nature is also a great way to educate them about survival. Make sure to pack on marshmallows and hotdogs so you and your kids can enjoy cooking them on the bonfire. If you have a telescope, bring them as well so you can teach your kids about the plants and different constellations.

5. Plan a Hike

Another healthy and fun activity you can plan with your family is hiking. It is an excellent way for your kids to have a better appreciation of the wonderful landscapes that the world has to offer. Bring lots of water and make sure that you have a complete gear so you can stay safe while enjoying a special time with your family.

6. Visit Your Parents

If your parents live far away from you and your family, it will also be a great weekend if you can spend it with your parents. It is a great way to establish a bond with your parents and your children. Make sure to bring them a gift. GiftGivingToday.com has a list of gift ideas to check out if you are unsure of what to get your parents.

7. Do a Movie Marathon

If you can’t go out, you can instead spend the rest of the day at home doing a movie marathon. Let each family member choose a movie they want to watch and line it up. Make sure to make the movie experience complete by prepping popcorn, hot dogs, or pizza.

Every once a while, it is okay to drop whatever you are doing to spend some time with your family. Give it a try, and you will see the big difference it can make.
