5 Tips for Taking Care of Your Bedroom Furniture

Bedroom furniture, like any other furniture in your home, is an investment. Therefore, you need to take good care of the items in your bedroom to prevent them from losing their luster and help them last longer.

Here’s how to take good care of these furnishings and get the most out of them.

1. Buy Well-Made Furniture That Doesn’t Mark Easily

Your first care guideline is to invest in quality. Cheap furniture will stain, scratch, and splinter more easily than well-constructed pieces designed to stand the test of time. The initial investment is worth it because you’ll need to replace the furniture less frequently and spend much less time trying to maintain it.

Bedroom furniture in New Zealand is increasingly popular because it’s renowned for being made from fine materials using the best techniques. Consider looking further afield when you’re sourcing furniture – quality speaks for itself.

2. Research the Best Cleaning Materials and Methods

When cleaning your furnishings, use the correct method depending on the materials used to make them. For wood furniture, use a soft fabric and a mild cleaning detergent or solution at the beginning and transition to the concentrated one later. Check if the furniture has a hard or oil finish to know which cleaning agent to buy.

If you are cleaning leather furniture, dust the surface first before starting to clean it. Make a solution of equal amounts of water and vinegar. Use a damp cloth to wash the item and dry it using a different cloth.

If you have fabric-covered furniture in your bedroom, cleaning them also requires a unique but straightforward process. Begin by vacuuming the material to eliminate all the dust and dirt. Afterward, read the label to find out the kind of cleaning solution that you can use to clean it.

If there is no label, test a concealed section, and if you find that it’s effective and doesn’t ruin the fabric, go ahead and clean the whole item. Begin with a mild detergent before proceeding to the tougher ones.

3. Distribute your Weight Evenly When Using the Furniture

We all have a favorite sitting or lying position, but try to ensure that it’s comfortable for the furniture as well as for you. Slumping sideways across an armchair pushes the arms away from the body and can cause damage – it might be comfy, but it’s not good for your back, and it’s certainly not good for the chair.

Remember to regularly rotate your pillows, cushions, and mattresses to protect your bedroom items from wearing out quickly. You can also change your sitting or lying position from time to time.

4. Protect It from Direct Sunlight

The sun makes fabrics fade with time. Place your furnishings where the sun does not reach. So, avoid placing them next to windows and always ensure the curtains are drawn. If you can’t avoid the sun, move your furniture around regularly. Also, condition your leather furniture occasionally to reduce the cracking process.

5. Avoid Damp

Consider using a dehumidifier during the rainy season to ensure the air is relatively dry. Damp causes wood to expand and warp, leading to damage you’ll never be able to restore fully.

Likewise, avoid using a soaking cloth and choose a damp one instead when cleaning. Use a separate clean fabric to dry to avoid saturating the wood item with water.

Conclusion

A bedroom is a place you retreat to when you want to escape the world, so you should buy the best furniture you can afford to make it look great and cozy. Applying the above techniques can keep your bedroom furniture in good condition and make it last longer.
