Most people strive to make their homes a place of refuge where comfort and safety are a given, so they are generally willing to spend a little extra money to meet this requirement. Investing in a maintenance plan for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit in your home will aid in this practice.

Here are four benefits to having your HVAC unit regularly inspected and cleaned.

  1. Preventing Health Hazards

One of the primary benefits of having an HVAC checkup is to protect you and your loved ones from the dangers of carbon monoxide leaks. Without an annual cleaning, your system may stop functioning correctly. A cracked or damaged heat exchanger can be the cause of carbon monoxide suddenly being pumped into your home. Known for causing headaches, dizziness and potential fatalities, the odorless gas can become an unseen threat to the health of everyone inside. While carbon monoxide detectors are always important to keep on hand, you also want to do your best to stop the problem before it even happens.

  1. Improving Air Quality

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the concentrations of pollutants inside the home tend to be at higher levels than the outdoors. By replacing the HVAC air filters every month, you can keep out airborne contaminants and improve the air quality indoors. It’s also important to ensure you are buying the correct filters for your unit. The higher the MERV rating of your filter, the higher filtration it has. However, if your buy a filter that is rated higher than your machine can handle, you could cause the motor to burn out. If you aren’t sure which filter would work best for your unit, talk to a specialist like those at Chicagoland Heating and AC, they will help you find the best option.

If you have a hard time remembering to regularly change the filters, set an alert on your phone to help you remember. Breathing in clean, filtered air prevents unnecessary respiratory issues from arising. This benefit is especially significant for those who have allergies or asthma.

  1. Saving Energy

Taking measures to have your HVAC unit running efficiently helps save energy and prolongs the operation of your system. You not only lessen the likelihood of having to buy a whole new HVAC unit but also reduce energy costs. Saving money itself is like a breath of fresh air; it provides a convenient stepping stone to helping you improve the quality of your life in other aspects as well.

  1. Preventing Mold and Mildew

Over time, condensation in your unit can build up in the vents and condenser of your HVAC unit. If that condensation isn’t regularly treated, it can turn into mold or mildew, affecting your home’s smell and air quality, which could have negative consequences for your home and family. Even if you don’t notice a musty smell, your unit could have a mold and mildew problem, so you never want to assume everything is okay. Cleaning your unit takes little time, and you’ll be glad for the peace of mind after you schedule it.

As you make continual efforts to invest in the upkeep of your HVAC unit, you will prevent problems that can be easily avoided, ensuring your home is well guarded against the common complications that can occur.
