6 Signs Your HVAC System Needs Repair

by RAKI WRIGHT

An HVAC system keeps you cool during the summers and warm during winters. Life is much more comfortable with one of these in your home. However, with time, you might notice issues with the system.

There could be less efficient cooling or heating. Your room might not be as warm and cozy as it would previously be or there might be weird noises, or unpleasant smells emanating from it. In those situations, it is important to contact an HVAC services company for air conditioning and heating help.

This article will help you identify other signs that indicate that your system needs repair.

Blows Warm Air

Your air conditioner system is faulty if it blows warm or hot air when it is required to give out cool and conditioned air. A damaged compressor unit could cause the problem. Or it could be low on refrigerant, which is a chemical compound that takes in heat and releases cold air. The process works with the help of compressors and evaporators. Warm air is also caused by a broken or disconnected return duct.

Excessive Dust Everywhere

Have you noticed extra dust around the house of late? Your HVAC unit may be the source of it. With time, it accumulates a lot of dust and may begin to spray out of the system. If it’s not checked, the problem can only get worse. Therefore, it is advisable that you get the filters checked once a month. Have them cleaned or replaced as per the technician’s advice. If you’ve got pets, it makes sense to replace them regularly. A clogged air filter prevents the HVAC system from clearing the air of dust particles.

Unpleasant Smells

Often, the easiest way to detect a faulty system is through unpleasant smells. For example, an odor like rotten eggs is caused by gas leakage. There could be different sources of the leak. In most cases, it might come from the natural gas furnace. Another reason could be a sewage leak. Sometimes, a smell could also remind you of dirty socks. Mold buildup on the AC’s evaporator coil is the main reason for such unpleasant odors in air conditioning units. In such a case, your technician will most probably replace and sterilize it. If you detect a musty smell, it indicates a fault in the condensate drain. When it clogs, there’s excessive moisture leading to mold growth. A professional will clean the drain pan, empty the drainage line and clean the condenser coil.  You can visit the website here or get in touch with professionals for more information.

Water Leakage

You should call a professional right away when you notice a water leakage. The leak could be caused by a drain tube or condenser unit. A clogged air filter or an overflowing drain pan could also cause water overflow. A broken or malfunctioning condensate pump could also be the reason behind the leak. It is better to have your air filter changed every three months.

Strange Noises

An improperly functioning HVAC system will make strange noises. It is easy to hear them. For instance, a defective fan belt makes a screeching sound in the blower. In that case, you will want to call a professional from somewhere like Premier HVAC Services out to take a look, as it might need a repair, or even a total replacement. A compressor malfunction will produce a humming sound. If any component of the furnace is broken or loose, you might hear clanking noises. The blower’s fan blades could also cause a loud and heavy slapping noise.

No Warmth During Winters

An efficient HVAC system will warm your house during winters with a heat pump. However, they might not defrost at times during winters. The reasons could vary from coil blockage to broken fan motors. A dirty heater filter will also prevent warm air from circulating in your home. Some central air heating systems also have a pilot light. It acts as the primary source of heat by igniting the gas. A damaged flame sensor will cause it to malfunction. In such a case, you may be required to replace it with a new one. Availing the services of a technician may be the best option in such a scenario as the process may be complex and require proper technical skills.

If you experience any of these issues with your HVAC system, you need to call a professional for air conditioning and heating help. It is better to do it immediately after you notice any of these. An HVAC system makes your life easier. It should function optimally at all times.
