Ever had one of those days when you just want to run and hide? You can’t take another moment of being an adult. You’re tired of answering questions, preparing another meal, and filling everyone else’s needs?
Sneaking is the new bingeing.
#MomSneak. America has spoken: 97% of moms say that they had more time for themselves before motherhood, and now, three-quarters (71%) of moms admit to sneaking in TV “me-time” while juggling a busy schedule, with some even hiding from their kids for just a moment of peace. With moms doing it anywhere and everywhere in the neighborhood when the kids aren’t around, sneaking is the new bingeing.
So smuggle a tablet into the bathroom for a little GLOW during your morning routine, but be forewarned: distracted makeup application may result in a look as bold as one of the gorgeous ladies of the 80s. And if you find yourself overstaying your welcome in the grocery store parking lot watching The Walking Dead, don’t feel guilty. As long as the ice cream doesn’t melt, no one will know your little sneak-ret. Be the life of the party with all the pop culture knowledge you’ll accumulate sneaking—your friends will thank you for talking about something other than the kids. If anyone questions your motives, let them know that according to a recent Netflix survey moms are feeling less stressed and more refreshed and even 19% say it makes them feel like a better parent by sneaking “me-time.” And dads, don’t feel left out. We know you need a break to sneak too.
Share where and why you sneak in your Netflix and how it’s helped you as a parent during your daily life.
Mom sneaks unite.
Places to go, people to see and shows to watch. With the kids around all summer long, finding a moment of solace can seem impossible—but you just have to get creative. Check out the official roadmap of where moms are sneaking in their TV “me-time” away from the little ones both in their homes and all over town. Where does your sneaking routine fit on the map?
Here are my top 10 favorite places to hide:
- Running an errand
- Work (going in early or leaving late)
- Lunch break
- Basement, attic, garage, shed
- At the gym
What to Do While You’re Hiding
- Read a book.
- Do something to pamper yourself.
- Let someone else do something you were “supposed to” do.
- Enjoy fresh flowers.
- Spend time with your friends.
- Take a nap.
- Do absolutely nothing… and enjoy it
- Watch (or binge-watch) your favorite shows.
Let’s be honest. We all do! And there’s nothing wrong with it. We all get overwhelmed sometimes. The best solution is to take some time to yourself. Get away. Take a deep breath. Enjoy some silence. Make some noise. Watch something good (or trashy!).
