As the winter season starts drawing to a close, the time has officially arrived for us to switch up many of our cold-weather habits. From changing how we dress to how we clean our homes, there are a lot of essential adjustments to make when moving into spring. However, one of the most important transitions to make has to do with your complexion, and how to prepare your skin for spring weather.

Switch To a Lighter Moisturizer

Make sure you’re switching out your heavy winter moisturizer for a lighter alternative. As the weather heats up, your skin naturally begins to produce more oil—which makes heavier lotions or creams too much for your cells to handle. Since moisturizing is important during any time of the year, you should adopt something that’s quicker to absorb into your skin.

Continue To Exfoliate

When it comes to preparing your skin for spring, you must remember to keep exfoliating. Though your skin won’t dry out as fast as it did during the winter months, you could still experience flaking during springtime. Maintaining the exfoliation part of your routine is key to getting rid of dead cells and keep your complexion clear.

Get Ahead of Breakouts

Next, try to anticipate the possibility of acne breakouts. Acne is very common during periods of transitionary weather, as your skin needs time to adapt to the new conditions. Start using lighter skincare serums and expect to see some redness during this time.

Lighten up Your Makeup

Another thing you can do to acclimate your skin to the spring climate is to cut back on how much makeup you apply. This is because it can give your skin a strange texture or shiny appearance during warmer months. Opting for a creamier foundation instead of powder can make a difference by allowing your skin to breathe.

Increase Your Sunscreen Usage

Most importantly, you’ll want to increase the amount of sunscreen you use. While you should be protecting your skin year-round, we all face a greater risk of sunburns in the warmer months. Applying sunscreen more often can be very advantageous to your skin’s overall health.
