If you’ve got a big move coming up, you may be feeling anxious about it and wondering what you can do to go into the big day confidently.

After all, the packing, logistical coordination and sheer emotions of moving house can be a lot for anyone to deal with. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be stressful! There are a few key strategies you can use to mitigate this anxiety and feel calm on moving day. To learn more about the top three ways you can help soothe your moving-day stress, read on.

1. Focus on the Positive

When you’re busy packing countless boxes and loading heavy objects onto trucks, it might not be obvious, but moving isn’t just physical – there’s a big psychological factor involved, too. You can come to associate your home with certain feelings or memories over time, and so leaving it behind can feel like a loss of sorts. Fortunately, just reminding yourself to focus on the positive can make a big difference here. Try to frame the move not as leaving something behind, but as moving forward into an exciting new chapter of your life. In the days leading up to your move, you may even want to repeat positive affirmations for ten minutes in the morning to get into the right mindset.

2. Bring Mementos Along

When you’ve lived in your home for a long time, it can be hard to break off your attachment right away. One way to help ease this transition is to bring little mementos of your old house into your new one. This could include anything from a physical trinket from the home to a collection of photos to put up on the walls.

3. Ask for Help

Finally, always remember that when it comes to a big life event like moving, you don’t have to go it alone. Even a little bit of help could take the burden off of you and make your moving day a lot easier. Whether you decide to hire professionals or you simply enlist caring family and friends, getting a group to help is sure to be the most efficient and effective way to get through your move as painlessly as possible.

Between packing endless cardboard boxes, coordinating moving-day schedules and dealing with the emotions of leaving your old home behind, moving house can be a lot for anyone to deal with. Luckily, a little preparation can make all the difference. Try these tips and you’re sure to be on your way to a stress-free moving day!
