It’s natural you want the best possible care for your family when you are having a baby. There are a lot of choices available. But what is best will be different for everyone. You can receive all your care from an obstetrician, from your pregnancy till your baby’s birth.

Who Is An Obstetrician?

A doctor who specializes in providing medical care before, during and after the birth of a child, is an obstetrician. One of the famous obstetrician Sydney is Rahul Sen. Some females feel more comfortable that they have their own obstetrician by their side, throughout their pregnancy and if there are any complications they will be in the hands of someone they know and trust.

How To Select An Obstetrician?

Know What You Want – If you have decided that you want an obstetrician, or your GP has recommended you to go for one, finding the right obstetrician is the same as to find any service provider. You need to find out if they are able to give you the required help and care that you may need and in the way, you want.

Some factors are to be considered like will the obstetrician be available for all your appointments and for the birth? They may be in group share arrangement and you should know how frequently they handover and to whom they handover.

Get Advice – In the beginning it is important that you research different obstetricians, to be sure that you have chosen the right fit for you. You can go for recommendations from your family or friends, they may help you from their own experiences.

Make Sure You Are Comfortable – The journey of pregnancy and birth is filled with great choices and also worry. You should feel confident that whoever is in your team understands the needs and concerns of you and take that into consideration. Once you have selected an obstetrician and made your first appointment, you should feel confident in talking to them. You should be confident in their judgement and advise and you should not feel awkward with them. You should be comfortable raising issues about your body, talking about your private parts, your state of mind and your expectations and preferences

Speak Your Mind – If you disagree with your obstetrician for any reason, talk to them and explain how you feel. If you still need to switch specialists, do it as soon as possible so that your new obstetrician becomes familiar with you and your case. The closer you are to your due date, the more difficult it is to find another obstetrician as many get booked up quickly.

Ask questions – You need not worry about asking questions and telling your obstetrician exactly what you want. You are into a partnership and you are the one having the baby. You should ask if the obstetrician will be available at all times and how to contact.

Find out the cost – There are services that you obtain from an obstetrician without getting admitted in the hospital. By law Private Health Insurance doesn’t cover medical services outside a hospital. So it’s important to check with your obstetrician what this means, during your pregnancy. You will not have any nasty surprises if you know your cost upfront. You should also ask your specialist about any additional out-of-pocket fees that you might have when getting admitted to the hospital.
