Less Common Sports Your Kids Should Try

Sports like football and soccer may not be appealing to your child, but what should you enroll them in if you still want them to gain the benefits of sports? Here are some tips for every potential Sports Mom.

There are plenty of less common sports your kids should try to stay active and social.

Bowling

Most kids think of bowling as a fun school field trip or birthday party theme, but it can also be a great choice for kids who are less interested in high-intensity sports. Bowling has a relatively low risk of injury and provides improved coordination, balance, and strategic thinking as well.

Archery

If your kid enjoys more independent activities with a focus on cognitive challenges, try enrolling them in archery. Archery traditionally involves aiming at a stationary target and progresses to moving targets or field archery, which mimics golf.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding has plenty of options and events to choose from, so it’ll be easy to find the right fit for your child. Whether your kid wants to try an individual riding event like show jumping or learn the ropes of becoming a team roper, there are plenty of events that will help build muscle, coordination, and social skills.

Water Polo

Water polo requires a basic comfort level with swimming, but as your child gets more involved, they’ll learn to be an expert-level swimmer with strong communication and teamwork skills. Water polo also has a lower risk of injury, as the water tends to support the body from bumps and joint injuries.

Golf

Golf teaches your child many physical skills, such as hand-eye coordination, and encourages muscle strength. As both a team and individual sport, a few additional benefits of golf include spending time outdoors, improving social skills, and learning the importance of patience. If you’re new to golf, get some gear from Grips4Less before heading out to a course. And then, book tee times in orange county.

Golf is a good sport for kids as you can let them enjoy or be a pro at it while staying safe at home. With golf simulators like Mevo Plus, young aspirants can play a real golf game without going outdoors.

Sports are an important activity to get your kids involved in. However, not every child is interested in high-intensity, contact sports. If this sounds like your child, check out a few of these less common sports your kid should try instead.
