Learning a New Language | Five Effortless Tips and Tricks

by RAKI WRIGHT

As the world becomes more and more connected, being bilingual is becoming increasingly valuable. Everyone wants to learn a new language nowadays. Some want to become bilingual to get an edge at their work, some want to move to a new country, whereas some just want to impress their friends.

If you are planning on learning a new language but don’t know how to get started, you have come to the right place. Here are a few tips and tricks that you should keep in mind when learning a new language:

Set Achievable Goals

Many of us start learning a new language by setting unrealistic goals for ourselves. It is better to clearly define your goals and reward yourself once you achieve them. If your goal is vague and unclear, you will lose motivation halfway through because you won’t be able to see the results. On the other hand, if you have small, clear, and achievable goals, you will have something to show for all the hard work that you have been doing which will keep you motivated.

Learn Vocabulary with Context

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is learning vocabulary without context. It is very unlikely that you will be able to keep new words in your mind without context. Learning a list of new words is often dull, boring, and difficult to remember. That is why associating some sort of back story with each word is very important.

That way, you will be able to remember the words much more easily and for much longer. For example, if you are a businessman and want to learn about business, you should read business English topics so that you can pick up new vocabulary and connect it to things that you are actually interested in.

Keep Reminding Yourself Why You are Learning

It is very easy to lose motivation when learning a new language, especially when you are teaching yourself. That is why it is important to keep reminding yourself once in a while why you started to learn the new language in the first place. It is something that will give you the motivation to keep going and continue your hard work.

Keep Practicing in Your Head

One of the best ways to practice throughout the day is by forcing yourself to think in that language. It is a great way to go about your daily routine and practice without taking any extra time. You can try to have fake conversations in the new language which will help you converse a lot more easily when you actually get the chance to speak in the given language.

Learn Pronunciation Patterns

Pronunciations can be a bit tough at first when you are learning a new language; however, there are tons of resources that you can use to fix that problem. Start following YouTubers that speak that language or watch movies in the same language with subtitles to learn the pronunciation of different words. It will certainly help you along the way.

In Conclusion:

Learning a new language is not rocket science. In fact, it has now become easier than before. Nowadays you can learn a new language without even leaving your room. With so many resources at your disposal, learning a new language isn’t a tough task. All you need to do is be consistent with your learning and not lose motivation the moment it gets tough for you. Good luck, guys!
