by RAKI WRIGHT

Simply put, hydrolyzed protein food is the food formula that get made exclusively for the dogs opting in for hydrolyzed proteins, rather than regular proteins. The hydrolyzed proteins get made through hydrolysis, a chemical process where multiple enzymes break the protein molecules in small structural components, such as peptides and amino acids.

The relevance of hydrolyzed protein food

When a dog’s immune system recognizes a food protein as a threat, allergic food reactions come up. And when the protein gets broken down in smaller particles, it can trick the immune system. The hydrolyzed protein gets flown beneath the immune system’s radar and is never detected.

Also, it is essential to note the difference between hydrolyzed protein food, restricted to novel protein diets, and dog foods. The restricted ingredient foods comprise a very small percentage of ingredients. On the other hand, the novel protein diets indicate the proteins that the dog never consumed before. You can check out the hydrolyzed dog food brands to know more.

The novel protein and limited ingredient diets aren’t made using hydrolysis. Additionally, hydrolyzed protein foods need a veterinary prescription. It also gets sold over the counter.

The advantages of the hydrolyzed protein dog food

Now that you are aware of hydrolyzed foods, it’s time that you understand their advantages. Discussed below are the dogs and a few conditions that can benefit from using hydrolyzed protein diets.

  • It’s meant for food allergies – The primary indication of the hydrolyzed protein diet is the removal of the food trials phase. In certain cases, the hydrolyzed proteins are used to clean the organism from the current food allergens. It returns the agitation of the immune system to the baseline. Other than food allergies, the studies highlight that hydrolyzed protein foods are advantageous for dogs suffering from atopic dermatitis.
  • It helps in the sensitive stomachs – Dogs who have a sensitive stomach can gain from this. The hydrolyzed proteins get broken down into smaller components. It means, that they are in a pre-digested protein state. To explain in simple words, the hydrolyzed proteins get easily digestible and hence have increased nutritional profiles instead of regular proteins.
  • It helps with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency – The dogs with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency don’t result in sufficient amounts of pancreatic enzymes needed for the breakdown of food, which in turn leads to impaired digestion. Today, there is increased evidence that highlights those hydrolyzed proteins get digested better and are beneficial for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency dogs. It helps to manage and bring down the symptoms and signs.
  • It’s helpful for inflammatory bowel disease – The hydrolyzed dog foods are beneficial for managing the dogs who have IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease). According to studies, when dogs have hydrolyzed proteins, it brings down the chronic signs that are linked with small bowel enteropathies. That aside, studies highlight that when hydrolyzed proteins get used for a long time can help to enhance the intestinal membrane.

These are some of the advantages of using hydrolyzed protein food for dogs. However, it’s always best to seek medical guidance so that you are on the safe side.
