Unless you are lucky enough to live on a tropical, pacific island, we can all agree we’ve become more experienced at spending more hours at home.
2020 has been a year like no other. We could just sit back and complain, or we could look at ways to make a success of life when stuck at home. This could be an opportunity for those of us with kids and other commitments to have the same opportunities that others have enjoyed for so long.
Quality Family Time
We can spend more family time than ever before, as usual, the challenge to balance work and home life can be troublesome. For those of us who have kids that are of school age, we never imagined spending so much time with them ever again. I for one am not going to underestimate the power of this gift. We have had daily family walks, chats, and just time in the house together to play games or even just watch a movie together. All being well we will never see this again, so let’s make the memories happy ones.

Learn New Skills
We can do all those things we wanted to do but never had the time. With many of the typical leisure facilities unavailable to us, we have the time to dedicate to other things. If you have always wanted to learn carpentry, we can do this at home via online tutorials. There are a few skills that cannot be learned this way.

Work from Home
We are told working from home has become, ‘the new normal’, well for many of us it’s the old normal. But if we are looking at how this is possible, we need to consider what is required to set ourselves up to be an efficient home worker. Firstly, we need a quiet and dedicated space to work from, you should have a desk that has a seat at the correct height to avoid repetitive strain injuries, you need it to be free of distractions as far as possible. Ensure you have all the IT equipment you need to work to your full capacity.

Get Involved in Causes
Why not use some of your new free time to get involved in good causes. There are plenty of charities that you can do work for from home. You can write for them, do design work, or even just reading and signing petitions can do a world of good. Take some time and read up on causes to decide which ones speak to you.
Educate Yourself
We spoke earlier about learning new skills. But why not take this a step further and look into the possibility of taking on a course of higher education online. It is easier than ever to work towards an online degree, and they are no longer a second-rate option. The beauty of studying this way is that you can choose your own hours, and even how long you take to complete your studies.
