Keeping up with household chores when you have children can be quite challenging. In less than 24 hours, you may find that the dishes have piled up, clothes have been left on the ground, and bedrooms are turned upside down. Does this sound familiar? To be honest, it is a common issue that most families face. Fortunately, there is a way of getting it under control.

Get your children on board

As a family, you should share household chores with your children. This is an effective way of enabling them to learn and develop skills firsthand such as caring for themselves, their family, and their home.

Children can then carry these invaluable skills into their adulthood, encouraging a responsible approach to their everyday activities. For example, skills such as organizing their delegated tasks and building a sense of teamwork within the home environment can start with the introduction of household chores.

Chore ideas for children

Here is a selection of ideas that you can use for children of different age groups. You can take your pick according to their age and ability.

Picking up their laundry

This is a popular household chore and buying your children their own laundry hamper for kids will give them a sense of responsibility and make your life easier when it comes to collecting their worn clothes. There is plenty to choose from and they prove beneficial for every home to have.

Loading washing machine and hanging laundry to dry

With this chore, children can begin to understand clothing label instructions and how garments need to be washed and treated. This will also encourage their ability to organize clothes and learn how to hang them. This chore is best for older children as it does include using large appliances.

Tidying up toys, games, and activities

Cluttered toys can make a mess very quickly in the house. The easiest way of tidying it all up is to buy children’s toy boxes. Your children can then carry their own boxes and pick up their belongings after playtime is over. This will help them to learn how to sort their toys and activities out while caring for their belongings.

Helping with grocery shopping and putting it away

Grocery shopping can be made easier when you have your children on board; helping you fill your trolley, loading the shopping into your car and unpacking it when you arrive home. Involving your children when drawing up a list of items you need to purchase before making the trip to the store will prove useful. Their involvement will help them feel valued and heard.

Helping with meal preparation & setting the table for mealtime

Under adult supervision, children who are able to help with meal preparation can do so, making the mealtime experience a richer and loving one. Their participation will help them pick up cooking and table setting skills which will give them a boost of confidence in their abilities.

Putting dishes away or loading dishwasher

Unwashed dishes and cooking utensils can mount up quickly, so having your children place their used dishes next to the sink or in the dishwasher is a useful chore that will help lighten the washing load for you.

Feeding and washing pets

If you have any pets, introduce your children to feeding and even washing them. This sense of responsibility will refresh their senses and understanding the importance of caring for and protecting others. Chances are, they’ll enjoy doing it too!

Watering indoor and outdoor plants

This chore will motivate your children to think about nature and how they should not forget that plants need to be cared for and loved for too. If you have any plants laying about the home or outdoor ones, buy your children their own watering can so they can regularly water them.

Conclusion

Overall, there are many ways you can get your children to help around the house and with products such as a laundry hamper for kids, your life can be made easier. So get your children on board and start your journey of building a team and most of all, having a lot of fun whilst doing it!
