Motorcycle accidents are some of the most common road traffic incidents to occur every year. This is due to the increased exposure that motorcyclists have on the road and careless driving from those in larger vehicles than them.

Because they are so common, there is an increased range of scenarios in that a motorcycle accident can happen. Here are some of the things that you can do if you are the first person on the scene of a motorcycle accident. Make sure you are being legally represented with all vehicle incidents using Chris Hudson in Augusta.

Move Away From The Traffic

The first thing that you can do is to get away from the flow of traffic. This can prevent any injuries from getting worse, or from causing any additional accidents. Make sure everything has been moved to a safe part of the road and that the person on the motorcycle, if it isn’t you, is in a safe position and location.

Assess The Damage

It is also important to look at the scene of the incident in order to determine the severity of any damage. Take a closer look at the environment and the type of condition that you or the rider are in.

Make sure that any injuries are being addressed and any loss of consciousness is dealt with discretion. In some cases, moving an injured person can make them suffer even more. This is due to severe internal bleeding and certain blood vessels being obstructed.

It is essential to use your own judgment and decide whether you should move the injured person or not. It is also important to decide how hazardous the scene is for other drivers, people who are passing by, and motorcyclists.

While it can be tempting to remove certain items, it could be worth waiting for authorities to arrive before doing anything. This is because you can easily injure yourself by placing yourself in danger when it is not needed.

Contact Emergency Services

Make sure you or someone nearby is contacting the necessary emergency services in order to access the help that is needed. By getting first aid when it is required, the rider can avoid significant injuries in some instances.

Likewise, it is worth dialing 911 in order to log any urgent issues with another driver in case the police are able to catch them. However, this only really applies to a hit-and-run situation. Even so, contacting emergency services should be done in order to get the best possible chance of recovering from severe injuries to the head or body.

This can still happen even when the motorcyclist is wearing the necessary protective clothing, so it is important to make sure that someone has contacted emergency services in a timely manner.

Collect Information

Another essential step that needs to be taken in a motorcycle accident is gathering as much information as possible. This includes writing down the date and time of the incident, estimated injuries, and the number of people involved.

Even if this is recorded on the notes app of your phone, it is worth collecting as many details as possible in order to protect yourself or the victim in a court of law. Likewise, it is crucial to write down any details of witnesses in case another perspective is needed.

Legal complications are highly likely when it comes to motorcycle accidents, so it is worth taking measures into your own hands if it seems appropriate to do so.

Remain Calm

One of the most important things that you should do is to stay calm. There is no point in making rash decisions during this time because it is likely a result of the adrenaline experienced. Consider taking some deep breaths and counting backward from fifty in your head.

Even if you are not the one who was involved in the motorcycle accident, it is easy to become emotional and unable to think straight. By making an effort to stay calm, you can inform the appropriate services and ensure that the accident is handled as efficiently as possible.

Summary

There is a range of things that should be considered when encountering a motorcycle accident. If the event occurred on or close to a busy road, then it could be worth checking with each person involved to see if help is being provided.

In some cases, the best thing to do is to keep driving and avoid causing an obstruction. Because of this, it is important to go with your gut and use your judgment depending on the situation.
