For the more adventurous travelers who still love a little luxury in their vacations, glamping is the ultimate combination. Offering the perfect blend of adventure, novelty, outdoorsy-ness, and elegant sophistication, glamping brings luxury to the backwoods and lets you relax in comfort and style in some of the most beautiful and remote spots in the world.

Glamping lets you get closer to nature, indulge in a more sustainable, eco-friendly form of tourism, and discover unusual parts of the world, without compromising on the amenities and comforts of a resort setting. You can explore remote beaches, rugged mountains, and stunning hidden valleys, all while enjoying the soft beds and warm showers that traditional camping doesn’t allow.

Glamping is a portmanteau for ‘glamorous camping’ and is pretty much what it suggests. Yurts or fixed canvas structures take the place of pop-up tents, and while the locations are just as stunning, natural, and remote as with a classic camping trip, a glamping resort will offer most of the amenities of a traditional hotel, from full bathrooms and turn-down service to on-site restaurants and king-size beds!

So next time you are planning a Mexico cruise, consider spending a few extra days exploring the magic and wonder that comes from glamping in this exciting, beautiful country. Here are a few of the best spots for glamping in Mexico.

Baja Camp, Isla Espíritu Santo, Baja California Sur

Set on the shores of the Sea of Cortez, on the picturesque island of Espiritu Santo just off the coast of La Paz, Baja Camp is a little slice of perfectly proportioned paradise. With safari-style tents complete with queen-sized beds, a private bathroom, and a large living space, this is glamping turned up a notch. The Sea of Cortez is one of the best places in the world to snorkel or scuba dive, or you can just lie back and drink in the peace and tranquility. At the end of the day, relax with a cocktail from the fully-stocked bar, and enjoy the freshest seafood imaginable courtesy of the on-site chef.

Akumal Natura Glamping, Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo

Mexico’s Caribbean coast is a gorgeous stretch of golden-sand beaches, calm (and warm!) turquoise water, with a lush jungle backdrop that adds an air of Mayan mystery to any trip. One of the best places to stay on the Riviera Maya is Akumal Natura Glamping, on one of the best beaches in the entire state. With stunning tropical gardens, an animal rescue center, and the beach just steps away from your tent, it is a truly luxurious and charming experience. You can swim in one of the two cenotes (natural sinkholes) on site, or head out to snorkel with sea turtles in the protected reserve just a few yards offshore.

Playa Viva, Zihuatanejo, Guerrero

Part yoga retreat, part eco-friendly lodge, Playa Viva is a stunning slice of sustainable luxury on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Small but perfectly formed, the 12 ‘tents’ are in fact treehouses, suspended amongst the trees overlooking the ocean. This might sound precarious, but each structure includes a king size bed, a living room, and an en-suite bathroom, as well as hammocks with ocean views, the perfect way to relax after a hard day’s…relaxation! Playa Viva also offers guests the chance to get involved with local initiatives by volunteering at the nearby turtle rescue sanctuary.

For travelers who want to get away from it all, but who love their creature comforts, glamping is the best of both worlds, and Mexico offers an amazing array of glamping options guaranteed to delight anyone who experiences them.
